About Me
With a hard-hitting, melodious and intrinsic sound, Diesel is all the industry needs to fuel a new breed of intergenerational music. Signed to Universal Music Publishing France as a Producer and Songwriter, this young protégé has worked with music's biggest superstars from Paris to New York. The critically acclaimed and internationally esteemed music producer Diesel won, with the group Nuttin' But Stringz, a 2008 Emmy Award for Best Arts Segment for two songs, “Thunder†and “Broken Sorrowâ€. Diesel has also worked with American R&B superstars Keyshia Cole and Amerie, to name a few. Diesel exposes his signature sound worldwide and can be heard on the highly anticipated April 2008 album releases for the French Popstar Lea Castel and R&B singer Cunnie Williams. As a self-taught musician, Diesel plays bass, guitar, and keyboards, and eagerly hones his craft learning anything new related to music. More than just a producer though, Diesel was formerly a successful artist with Rap group KDD in 1994 and was previously signed to Columbia Records/Sony Music as a recording artist. However, parting ways in 2000 to explore different artistic routes, Diesel reinvents his artistry and proves even more successful. Diesel is the one to watch as a full-fledged producer extraordinaire!Currently, Diesel is working closely with Grammy-nominated songwriter, Corey "Latif" Williams, who wrote songs for Chris Brown and Musiq Soulchild in 2007. Recently, Diesel produced and supervised ULM/ Universal Music recording artist Lea Castel's whole album "Pressee de Vivre". Diesel also produced, recorded, and co-wrote eight songs on Cunnie Williams' album "No Place like Home" (ULM/ Universal Music). When Diesel placed the song "Guess What?" featuring Jadakiss ..shia Cole's album "The Way It Is", he was one of the very first French producers to land a song on an American platinum-selling album.
Diesel's 2008 Emmy Award win came from his collaboration with two talented American violinists, Nuttin' But Stringz. Diesel produced and co-wrote six songs on their album "From the Subway to the Charts" (Koch Records), including the two songs that won a 2008 Emmy Award for Best Arts Segment. As a Producer, Diesel has planted his seeds in both the music and television industries, and continues to prove successful with every step he takes.
Diesel has achieved many triumphs but has so much more to offer the music industry. His style is organic and sophisticated. His music is unparalleled in that it sounds vintage and new, percussive and melodic. He is embarking on a long musical journey that has yet to begin. We have seen the fruits of his labor bud into musical history thus far but with so much more ahead of him, Diesel will continue to make his mark as a musical pioneer.
Â
Born in Toulouse, France as Alexandre Varela Da Veiga to a musically inclined family, Diesel is living proof that dreams do come true. As the son of a professional musician and leader of a Jazz Band, Diesel grew up surrounded by different kinds of music. His father, a musicologist, gave conferences about opera and classical music in French universities.
It was at the age of 12 that Diesel realized his exuberant passion for music. Unlike most children who are undecided about their career path, Diesel knew that he wanted to be both an Artist and a Producer. Then, at the age of 14, he produced his first track. It was at the age of 15, that Diesel was signed to Columbia Records/ Sony Music with his rap group KDD.
Â
Having toured the world over as a successful artist for six years, Diesel released three albums with Sony Music. KDD's second album was a hit in France and it included the hit single "Une Princesse Est Morte" which spoke of women in the world, and was a very personal song to Diesel. It paid homage to his mother who had recently passed.
Â
Diesel has an international career and his sound is one that is much needed in overall music. As a Producer and Songwriter, Diesel is inspiring, innovative, ambitious and born to change the dynamic of music. Diesel pushes the envelope of creativity and brings a fresh perspective to all that he does. He appreciates all types of music from the soul, funk, rap, rock, and alternative genres but notes Prince, Quincy Jones, the Neptunes, and Timbaland as some of his musical inspirations. And when one asks him to classify his musical style, with humble confidence, he replies "Well made music…handcrafted songs. I believe there's only one style I wanna be part of…and it's called good taste!"
