KiNG CAR2N, real name Jose Campos, was born in Del Rio, Tx on May 5th, 1987 and raised in both Del Rio and Eagle Pass, Tx. The son of an Saltillo-born / Los Angeles-raised father and a Durango, Mexico-born / Acuna, Mexico-raised mother, he was the middle child with 2 sisters. A Chronic Asthmatic, he had very few past times: Art and Music.I fell in love with music the first time I heard a 2pac track. My cousin Cuauhtemoc “Temo†Rodriguez gave me a cassette tape of 2pac “Me Against The World†and “Hit Em Up†which my mother naturally hated and made me return the next day. Little does he know he sparked my love of Hip Hop. A lot of people try to trivialize music, for me music is passion, without passion there is only sounds with words. Music can be violent, peaceful, proud, and thoughtful among other things; I try to incorporate as many emotions as I can into every cd I make. There is a lot of dark clouds around the music industry and even though I have had opportunities like being featured on “Dj Smallz College Tour cd†(which I could not pursue cause of financial reasons) and being offered a couple of local record deals, I chose to have my music remain MY MUSIC, and never sell my soul for change.I first started out being called cartoon around 1999 cause i would always be drawing. Around 2001 In 9th grade I attempted my first rap but never pursued it. I was part of TDS (Terrorizing Da Streetz) tagging crew and was known as "KAR2N". Over the years I just changed it to CAR2N (Car-Two-N, for those slow people) or Young Joe cause alot of people know me thru my dad call me "Little Joe". In the summer of 2005, I was part of TKB (Takin Kare of Bizness) with a couple close homeboys and actually started rapping quite frequently and was the first to my knowledge to start claiming the East Side of Del Rio. Our most memorable track was “The Way We Do†with me and Pablo Patron. At the time more people knew me for dj-ing and creating Slowed N Chopped mixes in High School. I Dropped “Out The Trunkâ€, “Ghetto Dreamsâ€, “BlockBruiserâ€, “EPT 2 DRT†in 2005 as Dj CAR2N. Since I had began to rap and gain notoriety around Del Rio I put together a mix called “19 Years Deep†featuring local rappers as well as my own tracks and a couple Texas artists tracks. I started writing more and more, soon I finished a mixtape called “Face Of The East Side†and I kept at it. Soon I met Ballistiq and AG who were doing a collab cd and put me on my first well known track “830 Remixâ€. A couple of songs and performances later I got my own microphone and studio set up and started work on my first real solo mixtape “Man Of Business†which I dropped on May 5th 2007. Needless to say, I made a lot of enemies off that cd. All the hate and enemies prompted me and AG to create the “Del Rio Kingz†as our claim of the throne of the city. We put out Del Rio Kingz Volume 1 and sparked even more controversy but we let the music speak for itself. I moved to San Antonio to attend UTSA in August of 2007 but also continued working on my music. I recorded a cd called “Money & Music†but was unsatisfied with the response I got online from it and decided to scrap it. All the negative response fueled me to write more and more, record better and also find my own style. From January 2008 till September 2008 I was making track after track for my latest mixtape “Writers Block Volume 1†which gained me many fans as well as many enemies. In my opinion it is my best work by far and have gotten nothing but positive response from un-biased people. I am currently working on Writers Block Volume 2 which is half-way done, Southern Boy Music Presents Del Rio Kingz Volume 2 with AG which is coming out amazing in my opinion, and a collab cd with my homeboy Pablo Patron. I have nothing but optimism for the future and know that with my family, close friends, and my music nothing is impossible. Peace
