Hmm. I really should find me some hobbies :o)I like sport, but only watching not playing since a knee injury ended that a few years back (everyone who knows me has invariably heard me whining about that knee at some stage or other) so I'm now living my sporting career vicariously through the exploits of the Mayo senior football team who are (once again)just one match away from All-Ireland glory. What a bunch of optimists we are. I am a part-time, semi-enthusiastic supporter of Liverpool Football Club but will happily watch most football.I draw when the mood takes me .. but am quite lazy when it comes to using this closest thing to a talent i have! I love art and art history and had a ball wandering round the Borghese Galleries in Italy recently..Being outdoors.. in good company and warm clothes!!Nothing better than parking in front of the fire in Taaffe's in Galway with a good pint of Guinness and an even better friend and catching up!
To name a few.. Air, Albert Niland, Antony+the Johnsons, Arcade Fire, the Band, Basement Jaxx, Beck, Belle+Sebastian, Bell X1, Brucie(cheers Michelle)Bryan Adams, the Chalets, Chemical Bros, the Cure, Cut Copy, David Gray (earlier stuff)Dean Martin, Declan O'Rourke, Donavon Frankenreiter, Eric Clapton, Eva Cassidy, Foo Fighters, the Frames, Frank Sinatra, Future Kings of Spain, Garth Brooks (oh yeah!)Gemma Hayes, Goldfrapp, the Go! Team, Groove Armada, Jack Johnson, Jack L, Jeff Buckley, Johnny Cash, Josh Ritter, Joy Division, Kings of Leon, Kooks, Kula Shaker, I Am Not Lefthanded, Interpol, Lily Allen(I just can't help it :(), Lucas, Madonna, Moby, New Order, Noelie McDonnell, PIER 19, Pearl Jam, Pixies, Placebo, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Prodigy, Ray LaMontagne, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Rolling Stones, Rufus Wainright, Ryan Adams, Stone Roses, Sabrina Dinan, Sawdoctors, Snow Patrol, Sufjan Stevens, Take That!, Talking Heads, Thin Lizzy, U2, Van Morrison, Waterboys, White Stripes. And more..that's roughly one tenth of what's on my iRiver, which, incidentally is my New Favourite Thing.
I don't watch films nearly as much as I'd like to, and I haven't seen most films that the rest of the world would take for granted, like Lord of the Rings, Shawshank Redemption Wayne's World, Rocky(!) the Matrix, and erm, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (or any of their adventures for that matter) *hangs head in shame*But I do love, amongst others Fight Club, the Last Waltz, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the Constant Gardener, Zoolander! Little Miss Sunshine, The Sea Inside, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Casablanca, The Matchmaker, eh, Police Academy....only the first four though!
Could happily live without TV, and have done in the past, but seeing as I have one I'll watch Scrubs, Home and Away (JUST cos it happens to be on when I get in from work, you understand), Other Voices, My Name is Earl, Phoenix Nights, Black Books, Desperate Houswives, (won't miss it now that I actually do have a TV to watch) South Park, Jonathan Ross!! - quality stuff, all of it! I am partial to the odd GAA match or ten too. Or football if it's on. But the Simpsons wrecks my head a bit.....am I weird?!
Any art history book (as long as there are pictures...!) I've also recently read 'What I Loved' by Siri Hustvedt, 'The Travelling Hornplayer' by Barbara Trapido, 'The Bone People' by Kerewin Holmes, 'Sophie's Choice' by William Styron...currently reading travel guides!
I don't think I have any.. not in the traditional sense of the word anyway. But there are certain people in my life whose way of thinking really inspires me and makes me want to change myself and my way of looking at the world for the better, so I guess that's as good as anything.
