New Theory was formed in 2004 with the intent of creating a heavy melodic sound . This is accomplished with Steven's powerful and compelling vocals. Sean's intense bass playing along with Tom's profound drumming complete this intricate rhythm section . Karl's dark, driving rhythms provide the edge . When combined, this Jersey shore based group has a sound people have compared to A Perfect Circle, Staind and Nickelback . Each song will take the listener on a different journey.(a Write up by Jerseybeat writer Phil Rainon)
New Theory- Premonition (www.myspace.com/newtheorynj)With A Thunderously Heavy New Album, Endless Touring, and a Prime Slot in a Battle of The Bands Competition, New Theory Proves That Hard Work and Determination Are What it Takes to Make it Under Your Own Terms. In a short interview I did with Sean Murray, bassist, and back-up vocalist for New Theory, I got the feeling that when I got to listen to their new album "Premonition," their years of experience, talent, and fun-loving charisma would radiate through the whole disc.
Starting back in the 90's as the hardcore band Age-9, founding members Sean Murray and drummer Tom Fitzgibbons, played the New York club circuit, including opening for Biohazard at Lamour's in Brooklyn.
They also played with the notorurios GG Allen and the Murder Junkies at The Fast Lane in Asbury Park, and more recently with Flogging Molly at Tillytown Fair at the Stone Pony.
They formed New Theory in 2004 with current members Karl Myiow, guitar, and Steven Miller, vocals. With their postive attitude and intensely fluid playing, "Premonition" succeeds in powerfully expelling their angst and criticisms of society, in a straight forward vein, without cynicism, or regrets.
Their raw energy, and heaviness in songs like, "Fading Tolerance" or "Built to Follow" can be found in bands like Alice in Chains, and Ministry. They've gained a devoted fan-base over the years that is part of the backbone to their perseverance. This coming Wednesday, August 13, they have the opening slot starting around 9pm at Bar A in Lake Como, for The Battle of the Bands Finals. Sean had mentioned that they had won second place last year, so if your a fan, or what to see some really good bands, check New Theory's myspace page for more details. The winner receives an on-air interview the day of Ratfest at The PNC Arts Center, and they'll also perform on the Second Stage.
The last song "Blowtorch," on "Premonition" is an ageless instrumental with a twisty bass vibe that just keeps on going. To me, that sums up what New Theory and their music is about- ageless, and relentless.- Phil Rainone
