Lax Boyz (hiphop-magazine.com)LAX Boyz - The Arrival Thursday - February 15, 2007 People get ready to take off aboard a flight that a young group of hungry teenagers aren’t ready to land. The LAX Boyz are three young gentlemen from California that are ready to take the world of hip-hop to a whole nother’ level. The LAX Boyz consists of three young men who go by the names of Spank B, Poke, and Zay Zay. Spank B and Poke are brothers and Zay Zay (who usually goes by Zay) is their cousin.Although only 15 and 16 years old, these three guys spit fire like some of the games veteran leaders. With their first single, “Ride Like Thisâ€, ripping up the radio airwaves they are quickly making a name for themselves. These three mature young men took time out to talk about the album and some of their goals for next few years. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight.LAX Boyz what’s going on?Group: Nothing much just got done playing a game of basketball.Any of y’all got some serious skills?Group: Oh yeah, most definitely put us up against anybody and we taking itWhere are you guys from?Group: We’re all originally from L.A.How did you guys get started in the music biz?Spank B: It goes back to when we were kids we were in my uncle’s garage (Zay’s father) playing with this beat machine that he had just purchased and we started having this little freestyle session and he saw the fire in our eyes and how serious we were and just asked us if we wanted to start a rap group and we were like yeah. How old were you guys then?Spank B: We were like 8 or 9, we were young then. And how old are you guys now?Spank B: I..m 15.Zay: 15 too.Poke: I..m the oldest, 16.When does the album drop and what’s the title?Group: We’re hoping that album drops by the summer.Spank B: The title of the album is “The Arrival†and it’s a meaning behind that. It’s like when you go somewhere like LA for instance you know you land, you arrive and our name is the LAX Boyz and we’ve arrived in this industry with full force and we don’t plan on going anywhere soon. The name of the first single is “Ride Like This†and it was produced by Jazze Pha. How did you guys hook up with Jazze Pha? How was it working with Jazze?Spank B: That was all of our managers doing. And let me say something about Jazze…Jazze isn’t just a beatmaker he’s an actual producer. He stayed in the studio helped us out with the hook, made sure our verses flowed tight and he’s just an all around good dude. You know most producers these days just send over the beat and it wasn’t like that at all with Jazze.Besides Jazze what other producers did you guys work with on the album?Poke: We got Poli Paul on the album, Trackmasters, Jazze Pha of course, Travis Barker and some other people on there. What can people expect from the LAX Boyz when they listen to “The Arrivalâ€?Poke: When people listen to this album they can expect to hear up-beat music and just an all-around great CD. Like honestly any track off of this album could a single.Who are some of you guys’ musical influences?Spank B: Musically one of my influences would have to be Busta Rhymes.Zay: I would definitely have to say Ludacris and Andre 3000 because of their versatility.Poke: I’m gonna say Cassidy and Jadakiss, two of the most underrated rappers in the game.As a group what are your goals?Spank B: To just make good music and be around for a while. Like we’re not a gimmick the LAX Boyz are real and that’s how you last in this industry. The real have longevity and the gimmicks fade out. What is it like being in a group as a family? I know there has to be some fighting amongst you guys?Group: Ahh man...Spank B: I mean it’s conflict in every family and we have our disagreements and stuff like that but we know how to separate business and personal matters. Like before this interview we had just got done playing basketball, it was me and my friend against Poke and Zay. And you know things get heated during basketball games and people were getting mad but as you can tell now we good now. What is the attention like at school since you guys have a video out now? Do old friends treat you the same? Are the girls going crazy over you?Group: Man, it’s crazy.Spank B: Like I remember the day when our song first was played on the radio and me and Zay go to the same school so we walking in the school and like everybody was singing the song (“Ride Like Thisâ€). It was crazy. But yeah, we kind of like the celebrities of the school and what not but the teachers don’t care nothing about that, they still be like you do that work.Aside from the album and school what are you guys doing right now? Do you plan on touring in the summer? If so with whom?Spank B: Well an album is never really done until it’s released so we’re still working in the studio everyday because the album is fire right now but you know it can always be better.Group: Yeah, we definitely hope to be touring this summer we see ourselves touring with people like Bow Wow, Ne-Yo, Omarion. So I guess you guys could see yourself on the Scream Tour, because it’s like the best tour ever for teens?Group: Oh yeah, most definitely but if we start our own tour then that would be the best tour ever.If you guys weren’t doing music what would you pursue as a career?Spank B: I love to draw so I would have to say that I would pursue a career as a cartoonist.Poke: I would try and be a professional skate boarder because I’ve been doing it since I was a kid.Zay: I would be focused on football and try to play pro in the NFL.
