Having always been interested in organic, natural forms and the human body, I have continued to explore the idea of pushing the body to the extreme, and putting it under extreme tension.Whilst considering the topic “Movement†I found myself investigating further and examining images of the human body, particularly muscles, at a microscopic level. I also found myself looking just under the skin, at muscles that had been preserved and displayed. I was intrigued by the contours of these, just as I had previously been by the contours of the body as a whole. The flowing lines and layers, as well as the tightening and shortening under tension sparked my imagination. I found that as I looked closer at the body these lines were everywhere; from the wrinkles around the eyes, to the skin on the knuckles. We have these thin, delicate lines mapping out the contours all over our bodies.Form is always my priority over function. It is important to me to develop a form that communicates all my ideas and research into contours and muscles. I also consider the lines in muscles and the tension of these.
