About Me

As the profile suggests, my name is Melissa. I'm back living in Clifton Park, where I was born and raised. Some say it's suburbia's pit of hell, but I actually don't mind it.

I am lucky to have been blessed with a wonderful family and two of the best friends in the world; without their support, I wouldn't be where I am today.

My biggest passion in life has always been animals - working at at the Animal Protective Foundation is incredibly rewarding yet incredibly difficult. But I take great pride in being the Shelter Geek, and I can't imagine doing anything else.

I also run the APF's MySpace page - GO HERE . Friend us! Because I am the Shelter Geek.

My Interests

My job can be pretty emotionally draining, so I decompress by tooling around on the computer or watching some mindless tv. I read and write a lot of slash fiction. I enjoy both philosophical and inane conversation. I love food (I bake better than I cook) and going out to eat. I can be a pretty touchy-feely person and I love to cuddle and give back rubs and other things that will probably result in hundreds of unwanted friend requests by horny old men. Speaking of, I wouldn't mind finding a special person to spend time with doing all or some of the above.

I'd like to meet:

the proverbial "special someone." Yes, boys and girls (and I do mean boys AND girls) - I am on the market.

Music:

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Korn (perhaps I have some anger issues to work through). A few others, in no particular order: Fall Out Boy, Fiona Apple, Dresden Dolls, Dave Matthews (with or without "Band"), Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Rocco Deluca & the Burden, Blind Melon, Faith No More, Portishead, Doors, Queen, Pearl Jam ("Ten"-era), Nirvana, Poe, Alanis Morrissette, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice In Chains, Tool, The Fray, White Stripes, Puddle of Mudd, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Jane's Addiction, Hole, Janis Joplin, Stone Temple Pilots, Staind, Tantric, Hurt, Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, pretty much anything on The Edge...

Movies:

I am a horrible movie watcher - not that I don't have the attention span. Give me a "popular" movie reference and chances are I will only stare at you blankly because I haven't seen it. Glaring example - I have never seen any part of any Star Wars movie. However, there are a handful of movies that I could probably recite line for line; Airplane and Office Space are two that come to mind. Also a fan of Wayne's World, Secretary, Saved, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Clueless, Slums of Beverly Hills, But I'm a Cheerleader, My Cousin Vinny, Beetlejuice, Animal House. I also enjoy bad Lifetime movies.

Television:

I admit to watching a fair amount of TV... CSI (Vegas only), House, Criminal Minds, MythBusters, and pretty much anything on Food Network (I am secretly in love with Alton Brown), Animal Planet, HG and TLC. My family and I also watch a lot of trashy Maury (you are NOT the father), South Park, and Family Guy.
Anything sarcastic and inappropriate to watch with my Nana.
Oh, and I heart Dane Cook. Lots.

Books:

ah yes, I used to read books...

Heroes:

You know youre old when...

I just got back from the Ani DiFranco concert, and I feel so incredibly old. Reason 1:  I actually turned to Nick and we huffed when everyone stood up, therefore we had to stand.  Old. Reaso...
