I was born in Hawaii, and raised in the rainy town of Kaneohe. Growing up, I could describe myself as shy, thoughtful, and likeable. I then moved to Tacoma, Washington(another rainy place) for undergrad, where I fell in LOVE with coffee and found Washingtonians were just as nice as people back at home (encompassing the Aloha spirit). I decided, hey what the heck, I should venture on further from home...so Boston was the destination for grad school. To my amazement (or maybe I was just plain ignorant), I could not believe how rude people can be. I've gotten doors slammed in my face, stuck holding doors for people because they decided I was the doorwoman, honked at because they were inpatient and wanted me to drive onto the curb to get around the person in front of me who was at a red light, gotten cut off because I should let everyone in front of me (while they don't let me merge onto the highway), been told "what a shame...you should speak YOUR language," and have people stare at me on the T because they thought I was a foreigner. Don't get me wrong..I've made great friendships here and my husband is an Eastie himself...but be forewarned...if you act ignorant/ are disrespectful toward me, don't think I let you get away with it.
