About Me

Finishing my Peace Corps service in the Dominican Republic after almost three years of living and working in a Haitian-Dominican sugarcane village in the southwest region of the Dominican Republic and serving as the volunteer leader of 28 volunteers in the field of Community Economic Development. Now plotting my triumphant return to the United States in July, where I plan to eat, sleep and be merry before heading off to Princeton University to get my masters degree in public affairs and development studies. And the adventure continues...

My Interests

Dancing bachata and merengue at the bar downstairs, hanging on out with good PC buddies living in the capital, taking advantage of festivals, shows and concerts in Santo Domingo, and throwing myself into every adventure that comes my way

I'd like to meet:

"the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently-- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or villify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do." - Steve Jobs

Music:

Lately I'm hooked on Death Cab for Cutie and all of the acoustic samplers my sister-in-law hooked me up with- think adult alternative/eclectic mix

Movies:

Shawshank Redemption, Crash, Empire Records, Sense and Sensibility (A&E version, thank you very much), The Italian Job, Gladiator

Television:

No cable, but I finally got Seasons 2 and 3 for Gilmore Girls, which makes for a nice escape from the craziness down here.

Books:

If you are human and care anything about anybody, you must read Mountains beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder; for a disturbing view of world economics, read Confessions of an Economic Hitman; juicy Dominican dictator novel, read The Feast of the Goat; sustainable development and the future of our natural resources, read Collapse by Jared Diamond; trashy but brilliant British historical fiction, read The Queen's Fool by Phillipa Gregory

Heroes:

Quite truthfully, a God who always knows what's best for me and leads me in the right direction, regardless of my protests; and my mom, who continually inspires me to follow the unbeaten path and truly live life to the fullest.
