About Me
Hamsters On Crack first got together on February 14th (how cute), 1988. On that day, we wrote and recorded 4 songs (well, wrote 3, the other was a cover of 'send in the clowns'). Those songs were entered into the 'Worst Band in the World' contest which was sponsored by a record label who's name I can't remember. I don't know who the hell judged that contest, but there couldn't possibly have been anything submitted that was worse than the piece of crap we patched together that day.
Yeah, we got a little better over the next couple of years. We recorded a couple more tapes (CDs were way too expensive for a bunch of teenagers back then) and were seen playing shows around NJ at venues like, 'The Fast Lane', 'Club Bene', 'Murphy's Law', 'The Chics Inn', etc. We had the joy of sharing the stage with bands like 'Flatus' (Whom still exist today ( www.myspace.com/flatusnj )), 'Disorderly Conduct', 'Lethal Aggression', 'The Fiendz' (also still in existence ( www.myspace.com/thefiendz )), 'Social Plague', and 'Koven' to name a few.
I left the band sometime in late 1989 or early 1990, and they continued on, still using 'HOC', but changing the official name to 'Head on Collision'. I don't know much about what happened in those years after I left (maybe one of these days someone will step up, and I can post some more info), but I do know those were some of the best times in my life! I can tell you this...I still enjoy playing music and I can be heard or seen with the band 'Crosscheck', playing around the NJ scene ( www.myspace.com/crosscheckmusic ). I can also be found recording acts from all walks of life at my home based studio ( www.cupajoemusic.com )
I know there's a few fans of the scene back then, that are floating around the world somewhere wondering if there are any HOC recordings in existence. Well this is for you. I still have a bunch of stuff to go through. A lot of live stuff...including a cover of 'Hard Times' by the Cro Mags, a cover of 'Subliminal' by Suicidal, and the song 'Blue House Boys'. 'Blue House Boys' could have gotten us into some serious shit (actually, I think Mitch got into some trouble for it) at Rutgers if they were clever enough to figure out the whole story. I actually still have the article from a Rutgers newspaper in which the headline read: 'Innocent Frat song, or Blatant Sexism? You Decide'.
I just aquired www.hamstersoncrack.com (gee, what a surprise that wasn't taken), and I'll be setting it up in the near future. As of right now, it has all of the tracks from 1989's 'Fur Burger', free for download. Go Nuts!
I know I have some pictures of the guys somewhere, and various artwork and stuff. I'll throw it up as I find it.
Enjoy,
Steve
Oh yeah...and a big loud 'Thank You!' to the sexiest Hamster Whore a band could ever ask for!
....even though I never got any :-(
