The Biography of Champ“Champ†also known as C.H, was born Yao Z. Oni on august 18th 1988 in a west African city called Dapaong located in the country of Togo. For those of you who are not familiar with this area, here is a brief story: Togo used to be a German colony until the French and English took it away after winning a war that was bloody on both sides. In result of that, the country speaks a lot of languages. French, English, Spanish and a few African native languages that his parents taught him definitively make this young talented rapper stand out amongst other rappers.On a hot summer of 2005, he released a mix-tape called “just gettin’ started’’ with his brother Kossi and gained a lot of recognition. “That year was incredible, I felt like a star†says Yao Oni. “People listened to the mix-tape in the South Hills areas of Eugene Oregon and agreed to let us perform during assemblies at school.†he said.Champ started rapping over his little brother beats and recorded an album when they went to Philadelphia for a family visit on summer 2006. “ People back in Eugene Thought I already blew up when Coming Hard As a Modern Pimp came out!†He said. That album is the one that sold the most out of all his albums with outstanding songs such as “call’em Up’’ (Produced by Koudjo), the infamous “A Freak In Da Seat†(Produced by Kashstar). “To me I know we did a good job, and I give mad props to my brother Major for producing it because we handled that album like some pros†he said.At 19 years old, Yao Oni had a lot of experiences under his buckle. He could not only compose hits, but he also learned how to make beats. He appeared in a few music videos, a couple of freestyles on you tube where amateur videos are posted, and in the register guard news paper after doing a tremendous show at the Hilton hotel in Eugene Oregon. “My purpose is to be heard out there, I’m tired of being local, I need to step up to another level and make myself a star, a real star…†said the young rapper.The new album he’s currently working on is “Coming Hard As a Modern Pimp II“. The album is supposed to be better than the first one, because of the time and effort he actually spent on it. The album will be entirely produced by him as well. Stay tuned for more music info!
