Bacon Rules!

About Me

I was born and raised in Augusta, GA, and with the exception of a three-year stint in Columbia, SC, I've lived here all my life. I really enjoy the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, which has a lot to do with why I'm a biologist that loves to work with fish. I worked for a consulting firm for almost seven years, but grew tired of endless report writing and the extensive travel associated with that job. So I took a job with a non-profit here in town ( Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy ) and I'm loving life again. I get to spend at least two to three days a week working on the Savannah River doing research. Very soon, I hope to begin work on my Masters Degree.

My Interests

Fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, playing guitar and singing, writing, sitting on the porch drinking beer, and hanging out with a few close friends. About once a month, I get to go to and island on the coast of Georgia, St. Catherine's Island, to do fisheries research with Dr. Saul from Augusta State University. St. Catherine's is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been to in my life.

Music:

I enjoy lots of different kinds of music. My favorites are jazz, blues, bluegrass, and good old classic and southern rock. I'd list all of my favorite artists, but that sounds like a waste of time. I'll just say that I enjoy music that fits my current or desired mood. Right now, I'm most into the Avett Brothers , a bluegrass band from NC. I've seen them several times in Augusta (at Stillwater), and they always put on an awesome show!

Movies:

My favorite movies are mostly comedies, though I do enjoy action, drama, and the occasional romantic movie (no, I'm not gay). To name a few: Fletch, Fletch Lives, Caddyshack, Naked Gun, The Usual Suspects, Goodfellas, As Good as It Gets. I like just about all of the Tarantino flicks, all of Clint Eastwoods spaghetti westerns, and the James Bond movies (especially the Sean Connery ones).

Television:

I don't have a lot of time to watch shows at their normal times, so I got this digital cable box that records my shows (like TiVo). In no particular order, I watch Lost, My Name is Earl, The Office, This Old House, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, 24, and just about anything that comes on The Discovery Channel, History Channel, or Science Channel (I am a scientist, but not a geek). I also enjoy Funniest Home Videos (not the ones with Bob Saggett), and I especially like the clips that involve people hurting themselves or kids crying while their parents are dying with laughter.

Books:

A River Runs Through It, The Sun Also Rises, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Lives of a Cell

Heroes:

In my opinion, people throw this term around way too loosely these days. For me, my mom is my hero. She raised me and my brother all by herself, and made a lot of sacrifices to do so. As I get older, I appreciate these sacrifices more and more, and realize she is the most patient, giving, and loving person I know. I am truly lucky!
