About Me

First a bit of wisdom from one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century. "You're only as old as the woman you feel." -Julius Henry "Groucho" Marx-
I tend to be a fairly private person, so this myspace thing is kind of weird to me. I am very socio-politically conservative. Having said that, I believe I am more open minded than many liberals I know, who seem to go through life thinking they shouldn't have to tolerate any ideas they don't agree with. Not agreeing with me on a subject does not necessarily make you a bad person, it means that we don't agree. Laugh it off and move on.
"All people are born alike - except Republicans and Democrats." -Groucho Marx-
I am a conservationist, not an environmentalist. There is a difference. I haven't figured out what I want to do when I grow up. I am easy going and hard to anger, but my Italian half tends to hold a grudge. I enjoy the finer things such as classical music and fancy restaurants, but my Scottish half keeps me grounded enough that I can get as much enjoyment from Skynyrd, a Budweiser, and a grocery store brand pizza. You will find it hard to get me into a religious discussion, but I know what I believe. Finally, Thundersteve is my alter ego. He doesn't make many appearances, but they tend to be memorable. He's loud, overly full of confidence, and doesn't care what others think. Children fear Thundersteve, and women love him, or so he likes to think (it's usually the other way around).
One last quote from Groucho to end this section. "I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."

My Interests

I consider myself a bit of a renaissance man, so I have a wide variety of interests. I have a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife, so obviously living things (plants and animals, wild and domestic). Love to create (drawing, and woodwork mostly, also like clay but don't have ready access to a kiln) and look at art, but think the NEA is a waste of the taxpayers' money. Music (I keep saying that I'm going to start playing the piano again). Politics (I decided I was a Republican during the Bush/Dukakis election, when I was 12). Love cooking and eating good food.

In addition to being a renaissance man, I am also a guy (Dave Barry has an excellent book that discusses the difference between men and guys), so here are some of my more stereotypical interests. Tools, cars, wood, metal, fire, chrome, stone, machines, the internal combustion engine, and explosions. I have the guy ability to watch just about anything that has a score, so sports, particularly St. Louis Cardinals baseball, NC State basketball, Chicago Bears football, and NHL hockey (grew up a Blues fan, but got sucked into watching the hometown Hurricanes last season). Laughing at myself and others. A good beer (cold). Last, but definately not least, I love being around women, because they are soothing to the mind and soul.

I'd like to meet:

Not really looking for anyone except old friends maybe. A chick that doesn't suck would be nice too.

I'd also like to meet my Dad and Grandparents again, and God, but not for a while yet. I've got some living to do first.

Music:

Just about anything goes, musically. Although, I'm not big on whiny, modern R and B, and can't take much techno at one time. Check out the songs I post, and you're likely to hear about anything.

Movies:

Here are the movies I must stop and watch when flipping channels. Any Marx Brothers film, especially Duck Soup and A Day at the Races, Rocky I, II, and III, the Star Wars movies, Braveheart, The Big Lebowski, Enter the Dragon, Godfather I and II, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Saving Private Ryan, and last but definately not least Unforgiven because Will Money was from Missourah too.

Television:

Old comedies were better. Sanford and Son, the 3 Stooges, All in the Family, Monty Python's Flying Circus, the Jeffersons, etc... However, I currently enjoy My Name is Earl, King of the Hill, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Scrubs. Arrested Development never should have been taken off the air. Law and Order (the original) and the Sopranos are my favorite dramas. It's also likely to catch me watching cooking shows or This Old House.

Books:

Tolkien and Puzo are my favorite authors. Honestly don't read a whole lot though. I'd rather be more mentally engaged, and spend time drawing or woodworking if I'm going to be sitting around.

Heroes:

In alphabetical order: Batman, Mike Ditka, Bob Rooney, Rusty Shackleford, Bill Swerski, Superman, Pootie Tang, Roman Tokar, and David Wooderson.

Sticks and Stones

First of all, I'm not saying any of this because I'm a fan of Don Imus.  I know next to nothing about the guy.  I've heard about 10 minutes worth of his show in total, scattered over several...

Top Ten Albums of All Time

In response to Tom's list, here is what I consider my top 10 albums.  We agree with a few of the bands, but not necessarily the album.  I can listen to these albums over and over without ski...
