About Me
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Ayesha Sanaa discovered the joy of music while singing in the church choir. At age 13, she was selected out of hundreds of children to represent the United States of America in the International Childrens Festival in Tokyo, Japan and was later invited to perform the National Anthem for the world champion Houston Aeros National Hockey League team. Ayesha competed in and won every competition she entered (including the prestigious NAACP ACT-SO National competition winning the Bronze Medal in Vocal Performance.
Ayesha is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and is classically trained. Ayesha joined the Fisk Jubilee Singers as a freshman and became lead soprano in her sophomore year, remaining so until graduation. As a member of the Jubilee Singers, Ayesha traveled the world several times over and gained invaluable experience as a performer.
While attending Fisk, Ayesha took advantage of the Nashville music scene by performing background work for Take 6, and Shania Twain. She also performed a solo at the funeral of Vice President Al Gores father, at the Vice Presidents request. Ayesha gained performing and directing experience in musical theatre and drama garnering the lead roles in Dreamgirls, The Wiz, and directing the play Poof at the University.
Wyclef Jean after hearing her perform at the United Nations later flew Ayesha to New York and had her audition for Clive Davis, who immediately signed her to a recording contract on the Clef Records label. Thereafter, Ayesha performed at Carnegie Hall, along with Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Mark Anthony, Charlotte Church, Eric Clapton, and Wyclef Jean and Destinys Child. She performed with fellow new artist Gin, which featured Wyclef Jean, entitled Speak Chinese, all the while working on her first album.
After two years of delays in securing a release date for her album and financial difficulty at Clef Records, Ayesha grew weary. Ayesha would then make the biggest gamble of her career soliciting a release from her record label in order to start anew. A reluctant Clive Davis authorized the amicable release, after having declined several previous requests. Mr. Davis understood that Ayeshas undeniable talent and confidence in her ability gave her a desire to become a star not, just in the here and now, but in the long term. Ayesha has continued to write and record with several well-known producers and has been indefatigably working to secure the right opportunity ever since.
