Joseph I Hector was born March 25th nineteen eighty four to Mr and Mrs David Hector of providence RI. He grew up on the east side of providence for the entirety of his life with three older sisters and two older brothers.
Through out his term of life he has befriended thousands of individuals both while alive and after his departure to heaven. Joseph who always had the knack for keeping a crowd of friends with him was loved by all, despite his nature of rough horse play that often drove to a level overboard there was just something that made us love him more and more. You would say Joe was a pain in the ass of sorts, but at the same time his charm of friendship and love was irresistably impossible to deny. Joe touched many within his short time with us and everyone i mean everyone has a story or memory of Joe in his own unique version to them. At the same time we all have a common memory and that is the lively personality of a young man who was
attached to our minds, and spirits.
Joes style of how he lived and interacted with us all, branded our bond to him in everyway. There is so much to say about Joe we almost couldn't have a starting place to rectify our love and experiences with him. From an early age Joseph exhibited pure love and affection for people and animals alike, he never wanted anyone or thing to get hurt. Often times taking care of his friends and catering to their needs as company in and out of the Hector home is an example of this. His deep passion for the life of creatures was often shown by things like capturing mice out of his older brothers Alligator tank and in turn releasing them for their life be spared. Even strangers have learned to love Joe and became affected by his untimely passing. It has really been a legacy indeed surrounding the circumstances of what happened, why and how.
Till this day it greatly impacts our everyday living about the the life and times of Joseph I Hector. The direct purpose of this page and the reason I set this up is to keep memories, and a medium to which You as a friend and or family member can keep in touch with your thoughts and expressions publically. All comments and love is sincerely appreciated by not only the Hector family but by everyone. On September twenty third two thousand and one ten pm, as he walked with friends down a violent drenched Camp street Joseph I Hector was gunned down by members of a rival side of town. The fact that Joe was an innocent bystander and had nothing to do with the East side and South side tentions begs us why him. Everything happens on this earth for a reason good or bad, simply it was Joes time for God to take him. one can not begin to ask these questions that have found a common place to all our concerns.
It is often said that angels walk the lands of the earth for one reason, and that is to complete a mission. What happens after this mission ? Well the answer is they return back to home base, where is home base ? The answer is Heaven. Keep this idea in mind and apply it to the kid we hold dear to our hearts everyday. You may ask what was Joes mission, well with the concept just presented the picture is a lil clearer. Clearer to say that Joe was here to administer to our lives change and the opportunity to keep with us his life to us as a gift forever.
Since all of this occured, Joe's home going and memorial events have been so big that we have many obligations as a family and as friends to keep up with the birthday and valentines gathering. Again it has been deeply appreciated for all your love and support throughout the past 5 years. Too many people to thank individually but we would like to start with his life long friends and family. We would also like to thank the people and organizations who made all of the memorial functions possible from day one, from the large park outings and school partys to the small but great get togethers. The whole mount hope neighbor hood, The Met school, City line pub, Rhode Island victims crime advocacy, The Non violence institute, The city of providence, Park and recreations departments, Fox point boys and girls club, Billy taylor park, Providence journal, Hunts point in the bronx and Crazy Leggs of the Rocksteady crew for the Joe B-boy jam back in December of two thousand and one, All of the groups who performed at the rememberance day of two thousand and two at the park, The Machado family and the Narragansett Indian tribe for their co organization of the Joe day of april, two thousand and two, and Many many more thank you again.
The fact that Joseph I Hector still lives within us and around our everyday life is a blessing truly, because while this phenomenon not being something that happens in nearly any other death occurance, he was and is truly loved exponentially by all, (stranger or friend) more and more as life goes on.
