The greatest risk in life is to risk nothing.

My Interests

Music:

I listen to most anything with a good beat. Some of my favorites are the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Panther Attack!, Portishead, Billie Holiday, Mogwai, Radiohead, Frank Sinatra, tool, Chevelle, Jimi Hendrix, PJ Harvey, Bronze Fawn, and DJ Shadow.

Movies:

Some flicks I can watch over and over are Pulp Fiction, Stranger Than Fiction, Thomas Crown Affair, Empire Records, Man on Fire, Sandlot, and most anything with Audrey Hepburn.

Television:

I watch little television except Adult Swim. You might occasionally catch me watching something on Comedy Central, Discovery, or Spike unless my son is home. Then there might be some Nickelodeon, too.

Books:

I tend to have at least one book in progress. I read a range of things but lean mostly toward fiction. Some of my recent favorites have been The Secret of Lost Things by Sheridan Hay and Wicked by Gregory Maguire.

Heroes:

My son, Elias. He and I have discovered that mad skills come from the heart.

Interesting coincidence

Today is April 15th - Tax Day. Mine have been done for months and I've long since received (and spent -- no worries, I was responsible and paid off my credit cards) my return. However, I thought it ...

Digging for treasure in 2007

Like all January 1sts this coming New Year's Day marks a new beginning: an opportunity to start fresh and rise as a phoenix from the ashes.  While I am most certainly looking to 2008 as a fresh s...

Ten thousand days in the fire.

I'm feeling a little old.  Today I have been alive for ten thousand days!  My 4 year-old son has been alive 1549 days.  At a bit over 27 and 4 neither of us is actually old but I still ...

Coasting

This past weekend my friend Brian Bomar (aka Scruff) and I went to Sandusky, OH home of Cedar Point amusement park.  I hadn't been to an amusement park in ages (native Memphians will agree that L...

Dad Commandments

OK, I know I've been posting a lot on here recently.  I'll go back to lurker mode soon, I'm sure.  However, I saw something on MSN (of all places) that I wanted to share.  So, courtesy ...

Partying by the river.

I have to admit that I had more fun at the Beale Street Music Fest this year than I've ever previously had.  I went all three days despite what I thought were spotty line ups.  My friend Chr...

I heart contractors.

I've discovered that laying tile and painting, especially inside trim pieces, is hard.  Between my Dad and I it took us two days to lay about 20 square feet of tile.  That doesn't sound like...

I don't tell jokes well.

As the subject states, I don't tell jokes well.  I will never be a stand-up comedian -- which is fine by me, actually.  However, I did something today and every time I think about it I get a...
