I am West Midlands based bassist and songwriter. I can also play guitar, saxophone and sing. I Picked up the bass over 6 years ago as I was looking for an instrument that would help me get into a band and there were loads of guitarists around. In fact my pet peeve is guitarists who think they can play the bass as most of them can't very well (not that I'm a very good guitarist I'd like to add)! I've played in quite a diverse selection of acts during this period (some more successful than others) such as Last Man Standing, No Questions Asked, The Rebellion, Jack's Legacy, Laura Thompson, Synthetic and a few that didn't get far enough to even have a name! Currently, I'm bassist and singer/songwriter in the Vacant 45s, along with former Rebellion guitarist James Foster.
I take my main bass playing influences from the likes of Bruce Foxton, John Entwistle, Roger Waters,John Deacon and, to a lesser extent, Mark King, Bernard Edwards, Flea and John Taylor. I suppose you could say I'm quite a busy and loud bassist but I always try and play for the song rather than show off and overpower the other instruments.
I'm currently rehearsing and writing with 'The Vacant 45s' as well as learning and practicing tunes for possible solo acoustic gigs in the near future (time permitting). I'm also making sporadic appearances at local jam nights playing with whoever happens to be around.
