Sadly, as of our final show on February 09, 2007, The Golden Republic are no more. We are deeply grateful for all the support and love we’ve been shown during the years we invested in this phase of our lives. The Golden Republic evolved from an early art-rock project called ’People’ (the EP’s namesake), which started in Springfield, MO in 1999. After spending a few years experimenting with direction and songwriting and simply finding our sea-legs, the project was disassembled and reassembled as TGR. -------- In September 2004 we released the ’People’ EP on Astralwerks Records, followed by our self-titled full-length in February 2005. -------- During our years in TGR we had the pleasure of touring and playing extensively with such groups as Nada Surf, Sondre Lerche, Idlewild, Caesars, Graham Coxon, 22-20’s, Aqueduct, Mates of State, The Sleepy Jackson, The Thrills, Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, Interpol, The Walkmen, Motion City Soundtrack, The Get-Up Kids, Jens Lekman, Ed Harcourt, Kings of Convenience, Phoenix, the Concretes, West Indian Girl, Radio 4, VHS or BETA, Doug Gillard (GBV) and so on.
