T-Dunn One Man

About Me

T-Dunn One Man, Born Tyson L. Dunn, was raised in Dorchester, one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. Growing up in this environment he saw and was subject to the many different cultural influences that would later shape and mold him into the man he is today. The most prevalent contribution to his personality and demeanor was a sweeping trend in music that would soon become a worldwide phenonmenon in the form of Hip-Hop. At an early age T-Dunn soon found that he had a way with words that impressed his peers and garnished him accolades throughout the"hood" as a lyrical genius worthy of recognition. In the late eighties this attention soon paved the way for him to gravitate towards others who possessed the same passion and talent for this musical art form. As a teen he attended an interventional after school program at the Dorchester Youth Collaborative where the staff played an integral part in nurturing the need for its youth to express themselves in a positive way which helped them to escape the harsh realities that awaited them once they left the building. Over the next couple of years the program would interim as a booking agency of sorts for its most talented attendees who performed in a countless number of showcases, fundraisers, political events, and social functions in Massachusetts and throughout the United States. This was not new ground because year's earlier six teenagers walked through the same doors, followed the same path and exited into the mainstream music scene as The New Kids on the Block and Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg. In the early nineties a member of the afore mentioned NKOTB, Danny Woods, started a Hip-Hop production company and record label called Damage Records with whom T-Dunn was signed and contracted to pen lyrics for many of the artists on its roster. Due to circumstances beyond his control the lable suddenly disbanded leaving T-Dunn back in the same streets and situations he had tried so hard to aviod throughout his adolescents. He soon became a victim, like so many of our positve brothers, to the ills of society shortly after and found himself incarcerated for 4 1/2 years in correctional facilities throughout the state of Massachusetts. During this time instead of folding and giving in to the pressures of a hard life he found solace in his God given talent to rhyme and continued to write about his experiences as they came. Just as it was as a teenager on the streets his name began to ring amongst his peers as one of, if not the illest lyricist inside and outside the system, which further encouraged him to stick to his lyrical "guns". Upon his release in early 2000 he immediately went back to doing what he does best. His first full-length LP entitled "Masterpiece" was a highly underrated, under promoted, underground classic full of raw emotion(Overxposure, In the Rain),lyrical wizardry(Masterpiece, Peels), and thought provoking street narratives(Glory(Same ol Story),Guns) reminiscent of the golden rea of nineties Hip-Hop where he last left off. That was followed next by the "Who is One Man" mix CD and DVD which featured the video for OverXposure which till this day is played in rotation on local HIP-hop video shows such as Strictly Hip-Hop and Ill TV. After a bit of re-tooling, with promotional and marketing strategies as a highlight, he has emerged during this time of hyperactive super thug overkill to bless us with his newest entry into the Hip-Hop game entitled "Mello Ghetto". This has been described as one part blast from the past, one part message to the present, and one part hope for the future of East coast Hip-Hop and music in general. The lead single "Mistakes" featuring Lady Ro on vocals is in daily rotation on college radio such as 88.9FM @ night from 8-12p,88.1FM and 104.9FM, and "IT Takes 2" featuring Courtney McCall is a weekly favorite on The Takeover at 102.1FM.
