Phoenix Black

About Me

I was born in Liverpool but hail from the land of the Super Eagles, NIGERIA! and have been into music from a young age. I started rapping around the age of fourteen under the name Tripple-S. Ive been based in London since 1998 and Ive now established myself as Phoenix Black. I renamed myself in 2001 as I felt I have been reborn as an individual and am here to represent my people in a positive manner. Phoenix also means to surpass beauty and quality, which is what I aim to do in music making. I aint no skimpy garms wearin booty shakin chick (no disrespect to females who are each to their own and all) but that aint me. I just wanna write rhymes, perform and make music, show my dexterity! I would describe myself primarily as a rapper/poet but am also a singer/songwriter and play guitar. Artists from Bob Marley, Kenny Rogers to Michael Jackson have inspired me, not forgetting the Hip-Hop, the first influences being the likes of De La Soul, A Tribe called Quest, Gangstarr and Black Moon. I can't put a cap on my love for music cos it extends through many 'genres'. This unusual blend of flavour has taught me to appreciate the huge galaxy of music, where I only see one genre that is good music. Soul Music! The side I have gravitated towards due to my love for hip-hop is a fusion of soft sensual soul and hard rugged, meaningful hip-hop, which I like to call Neo Hip-Hop. I released my debut project; a 7 track EP called The Rough With The Smooth, in October 2004, which portrays my love for music, especially hip-hop and general state of affairs. (on my social commentry tip). It was launched at Deal Real Records (big up!!) and the project is in collaboration with Revolt Records who are a new and upcoming production collective. It features great production by them and another producer, Ace Of Jacks. The songs are on rotation on underground radio and some mainstream. Also did a tune called The Champions 2005, in conjunction with Ace of Jacks, which is a tribute song to Liverpool FC. So any Lpool FC fans, get in touch and Ill get you a copy. We will always be the champs!! FIVE TIMES, NOONE CAN TOUCH US! I am currently involved in running a night called Reclaiming The Soul, as a selector/DJ. This 1st started in January 2006-December 2007 at the Satay Bar Brixton, with ManVsWife. We then moved the night in conjunctio with Mahogany to the Market Place. Every third Sunday of the month from April 2008. We play the best of black music from the past, present and future so you're guaranteed a good night out if you come down on a sunday for some good food and good tunes. Check out myspace.com/reclaimingthesoul. I have one of my tracks BLING,BLING featuring on a compilation album called BURNT PROGRESS 1.1. Check IT out. Other projects forthcoming will be the video for HIP-HOP & PROUD and a solo album called CLEAR FRESH AIR, primarily produced by DJ Benjamin and also work with other producers mainly SANSAH a href="http://myspace.nuclearcentury.com" style="position:absolute; top:0px; left:50%; margin-left:-235px; z-index:9; width:80px; height:15px; background-image:url mspmb enableJSURL="false" enableHREF="false" saveEmbedTags="true" allowScriptAccess="never" allownetworking="internal" allowScriptAccess="never" allownetworking="internal" allowScriptAccess="never" allownetworking="internal"
