About Me

Everyone deserves the chance to fly.
"A man who chooses not to read is just as ignorant as a man who cannot read."
Mark Twain
I'm not all that interesting just yet (well, maybe it depends on your definition). I am working working at a Environmental Planning/Consulting firm in Sacramento, which is both entertaining and terrifying. Fear of academic fraud has no shine on the fear of professional fraud. But I figure that's typical - someday I will believe myself competent. We can only hope anyways...
I believe that I am done being a student. My MA in Public History has finally posted, so I am now officially graduated from Sac State. I got my BA from Cal Poly in History, with minors in Women's Studies and Anthropology/Archaeology, all of which I hope to eventually use outside of my own biting social commentary. And it is looking more and more like that is going to be the case. Who knew?
I value loyalty, honesty and a snarky sense of humor. I like musicals and Eddie Izzard, as well as country music (at least a good majority of it) and crossword puzzles. I read random books on random subjects (not to mention romance novels and fantasy fiction), and do my best to never get caught without an answer that at least ~sounds~ intelligent. Whether or not its right is irrelevant. I feel there is no excuse for denying a woman her reproductive rights, and that being homophobic is the fastest way to get on my shit list -- ever.
I am a sister, a daughter, a socially liberal feminist, a cat person, smart and all around a bit quirky...
Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
Don't think I couldn't ever understand -
I tried my hand
Honestly we'll never stop this train
"Stop this Train" ~ John Mayer
In youth our most bitter disappointments, our brightest hopes and ambitions are known only to otherwise, even our friendship and love we never fully share with another; there is something of every passion in every situation we conceal. Even so in our triumphs and our defeats. -- Elizabeth Cady Stanton
"Cry hard, Laugh Loud
Be humble, Stand Proud
Hold onto your faith with all your heart
Be careful, Be brave
Be still, but don't stay
In any one place for too long
"
I Wish For You ~ Jessica Andrews

I'd like to meet:

People who don’t piss me off with homophobic, sexist, racist, red neck, ill educated, asinine, vacuous drivel. Everyone else is welcome.

Maybe better said, people who understand that life is not a zero sum game. Believe in what you feel to be true, but understand that not everyone is going to agree with you. Nor should they. This in no way belittles or negates your beliefs or mine. Be a good person, be true to yourself and don’t hurt other people, and the rest of the world will take care of itself.

It (is) a very good year

It occurred to me today, as I was browsing the internet in search of options for Halloween costumes, that I am so incredibly grateful to be a fat girl in this time in history.  As much as the "ob...

And it was awesome. My grandmother, bless her heart I love her dearly, is wonderful for talking about food.  She can explain recipes that she develops on the fly as easily as breathing.  Ye...

And so it is.

Why is it that we do not learn from our mistakes?  We don't even learn from other people's mistakes.  We go from accidentally doing stupid things, to unconsciously doing stupider things, to ...

This is SOOO typical.

The world is funny.  After a long and sometimes trying time, I am finally done with my MA (my thesis was done almost 2 months ago - there were issues with other course requirements that took a wh...

Tattoo Love

I must admit that I love tattoos.  I know, I know - it shames my parents, and knocks me off my top tier of the "good child list," but something about ink just does it for me.   On other...

Can you still be friends after breaking up?

I am not one to be "friends" after breaking off a relationship. Admittedly, I dont date often enough for it to really be a concern of mine, but I have to think that even were I to date someo...

Black and White Ball? Pretty great, actually...

Who'd have thought something I had heard as a "drunken, rowdy hook up" type event could be as much fun as it turned out to be?  Definitely worth trying again next year (whilst dragging along cert...

You know, its a little weird.  A few weeks ago I didnt even know this event existed, but since my subsequent discovery and decision to attend, I have found disproportionately more people than I w...
