About Me

Nkosazana has had positive reviews in Pop Matters Magazine, Urb Magazine, South by Southwest-2004 Magazine, Smother Magazine, Soundclash Champions,Reggae Review Magazine,Big Up Radio,Midheaven,Sonic Garden,Newt Records,StreetWise Music (UK) Viva Music(Spain), Dubwise (France) Trip404-(France), Word & Sound (Germany), Straight (VancouverB.C.),12-inch Magazine (Romania), and more.Nkosazana (aka Niko/ Poor Vida) was born in Sacramento,California. Born of an African mother and Native American father, she is a true roots daughter. Blending reggae roots & rastafari reasonings with soulful vocals and a sweet groove. She is tempting you to join the rebellion, with a creative, sensual sound. (a british fan was quoted saying "Niko made me feel like a snake being charmed!") Unfortunately, Nkosazana was stricken with a severe form of Fibromyalgia in 2006, and was forced to slow down abit. Determined to continue songwriting and performing. Occasionally skateboarding. She is now living just south of Philadelphia, and working with a group of lion hearted friends, the Solomonic Family and Philly's roots reggae/dancehall community. I love PHILLY, I love SOLOMONIC, LADY ALMA, EL FECO B, THANKS TO THE SATORI MOVEMENT for giving I alikkle piece of Sacramento SK8er Love everywhere I go. DR. ECHO aka JUSTIN DEHART keeps the faith, thanks for the current project and past ones. Here's the rest of my bio: In 1995, Nkosazana became a political educator in the Pan African Revolutionary Movement, began long ago by Marcus Garvey. She works with dub reggae artist Doctor Echo, ( founder of Anicca Records), who was introduced to her thru the world of recording when she was 16. As front woman of Sacramento band Brother Love, they contributed a track to the Stereo Skateboarding compilation in 1996. So far Sister Niko had the honor of performing with or opening for Dr. Echo ,DJ Garth, Mix Master Mike, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Common, Sacramento's Rightous Movement, Mystik Journeyman, Saafir, Skif Dank, Solilaquists of Sound, Voice Of The People, and many, many more established and emerging artists in Florida, California. She sang background vocals on tour with Israel Vibrations' Apple Gabriel, in South America. In 2 months after it's release in 2002“The Price” reached 1 on the Worldwide Underground Dance chart and began playing at clubs & radio stations across the globe (including London’s Kiss 100, BBC Radio One,Music Choice, etc). The political anti-Iraq war, "no oil for blood" message was sent loud and clear. The record was released the day the bombings in Iraq started. Her international debut with DJ Garth became a dancefloor favorite. A Primal Records reviewer compared her to feminist revolutionary Emma Goldman, saying "It wouldn't be Nkosazana’s revolution, if you can't dance to it." Palestinian / Isreali Duo Adnan Sharif and Amit Shoham combined her vocals with Mumia Abu Jamal's for the record "Stop War" a benefit the Mid-east Children's Alliance). Jay Tripwire Remixed the Dr. Echo's "Living Reality thru Dreams " but remains unreleased. She is also a painter, photographer, poet and can cook up a storm of healthy gourmet!
