About Me

I play the cello. I started when I was 10, taking private lessons from some cellists in my hometown of Victoria, British Columbia. Went to college (I guess they have a section for that below) and got some degrees in cello playing. Started freelancing in 1990 and have been doing that ever since, playing in orchestras, small groups, doing some solo work, etc. in various venues around the world. More recently I've been given opportunities to contribute to a number of worship projects, in performance, in worship gatherings and in the studio. Some of my work has been released on the Integrity label, while other stuff is showing up on various Indy labels. It's a privilege to have recorded stuff with Jennie Riddle, Paul Baloche and Kari Jobe, among other worship leaders.
I am also privileged to lead worship at my church each Sunday. God has been showing me the value of humility and He has literally turned me inside out through this process, and I'm grateful for this process of being 'sweetly broken.'
Some folks have asked me what kind of instrument I play on. My cello was made for me by Chris Dungey (pronounced "DUN-gee", like dungeon but with an 'ee' on the end...) when we both lived in Eugene, Oregon in 1987. I think Chris lives in Montana now.
I am in the process of learning acoustic guitar. I just bought a Larrivee OM-03RE, which is an amazing instrument to play.
(BTW, if you're interested in learning guitar, I wholeheartedly recommend Paul Baloche's "Modern Worship" series of instructional DVDs, including the acoustic guitar DVDs. Paul's humble spirit and sincere encouragement have really inspired me to press toward the goal (Phil. 3:12-14.) ..

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Jesus. I think it would be really great to meet the disciple Peter, too, because he kept screwing up but Jesus loved him nonetheless. The Bible tells me that He loves me the same way. That is so cool!

My Blog

words in music are neat too!

So most of my life, I've been playing instrumental music (as a freelance cellist.)  (It has been difficult for me to simultaneously play a melodic line and sing another one.  I bet some peop...

my pastor left

Wow, my pastor resigned Sunday.  Not that I was especially surprised to hear this; he'd shared with me for months of his frustration with aspects of ministry at our church.  But still, to ha...

different new guitar

So after I got home and looked at my shiny new (okay, old) Larrivee, I discovered a 3"-long crack in the top of the instrument, right below the bridge, just barely noticeable unless you hold the instr...

Well, those two events yesterday (Sun 12/9) in Colorado really have me kind of bummed out this morning.   I don't know any YWAMers personally, but a lot of YWAM staffers go to a church I've ...
