i'm a fun-loving, sin-hating, straight-forward sista in Christ for life!...
My soul story...I was not 'raised in church'. I was dragged to church as a young child by my mother's mama every Saturday. It was at this Seventh Day Adventist church that I learned the Bible basics--the creation of man, Adam and Eve, etc. But as a kid, I didn't understand why I was forced to sacrifice my Saturday cartoons to be in church all day. When I posed that question to my parents, they said church was good for me. Well, me being the analytical child that I was, I responded that if it was so good, why didn't they go? I guess my parents saw their hypocrisy, because they lifted my mandatory Saturday church sentence :) Shortly after, while spending the night at my grandparents house, my grandmother told me to recite my prayers before bedtime. For some reason, that night I decided to question something I had been praying since I could talk. "Nana, why do we pray in Jesus' name?" I innocently continued. "He's just the Son." (God forgive me!) "Why not go straight to the Father?" Well, i shocked my poor grandmother so much, her response was, "Just finish your prayers."
I believe it was at that moment, my confusion with the church and church folk began, and the enemy launched an all-out attack to possess my soul. I formed 'my own' relationship with God, which included praying to God, evening asking Him to bless my unrighteous acts (Oh my God!). Finally, while in college, God sent a woman to answer that childhood question about Jesus. I came to understand and reverence my biggest hero, Jesus Christ, who came down here to die for me, thus saving my life. I eventually received the free gift of salvation a few months after graduating from college. I thank God for His grace to wait for me! He changed my race from unsaved to saved. Now, I run this race called life in Jesus' name!
