On the morning of his graduation from Vanderbilt University, singer/songwriter Mikey Wax received a letter that took nearly 20 years to get to him. It was from his late grandfather, who had written the letter when it was clear he had little time left to live. His grandfather requested the letter be handed to Mikey when he was a young man ready to enter "the real world." Inside were words of love, hope and wisdom to make up for lost time that the two would never share together. Inspired by his grandfathers words, Mikey wrote the song "With You Goes," which paved the way for his recent debut album, "Change Again." With his diploma in hand, Mikey moved back home to Long Island and contacted local producer Bob Stander, who had a small but quality studio in his basement. The two began recording songs together, and the collection of songs eventually turned into Wax's first full-length studio album, released November, 2008. It is a coming-of-age album with most of the subject matter dealing with change, uncertainty, love, and loss. The songs were placed in reverse order from the time they were written to allow the listener to hear the growth and maturity in the five years of writing that went into the album.
Since it's release in November, "Change Again" has reached 46 on the iTunes top 100 pop albums charts in the U.S, and has also charted on the iTunes top 100 pop albums in Canada, Australia, and the UK. This is a very strong debut for a completely independent artist with no label or major management behind him. The album has been continuing to spread through word-of-mouth, live shows, and social networking sites such as facebook, myspace and youtube.
His music is also starting to receive notice through several media outlets. Last May, Mikey's song "In Case I go Again" was selected as the winner of The Unsigned Artist radio contest held by WRMF/97.9 FM, a top 40 radio station in South Florida. The contest was voted on by over 10,000 fans and several music industry professionals. In October, Mikey was selected to perform in the 2008 CMJ Marathon, a highly regarded festival in the music industry featuring some of the best up-coming artists from around the world. In November, Mikey made his debut television performance playing live on the CBS News Morning show in Florida, reaching an audience of 50,000 plus viewers.
This past December, Mikey signed a contract with top booking agency Supreme Entertainment, who also represent acts such as Eve 6, Nine Days, Fastball, and Nick Lachey. Wax has been consistently touring the Northeast of the U.S since January, and will be doing his first major tour of the U.S this summer. Official tour dates have now been posted.
2009 looks to be a great year for the upcoming singer and songwriter. With constant touring and the growing success of his debut album, Mikey Wax is developing loyal fans all over the world.

“Slow Motionâ€
In a moment she will say these words
I can hear them just before she talks
By the way we stare I know it's going to hurt
And before she can explain
We share the pain
And it never goes away
The words are on replay
In slow motion it recreates in my head
I hear your voice all over again
And I cannot move on
I am stuck in time
Though days have come and gone
It's like I'm lost in space and I can't find the sun
I need light to find my way
Out of this day
Cause it never goes away
The words are on replay
In slow motion it recreates in my head
I hear your voice all over again
So let me get it straight
Was it just this one mistake?
It's so hard to comprehend
Yet the answer is so plain
And all you had to say
Is everything's the same
And keep me guessing why
You've been acting strange
And now there's nothing more to say
But it never goes away
The words are on replay
In slow motion it recreates in my head
I hear your voice all over again
And now there's nothing more to say
“In Case I Go Againâ€
I like that when I come back home
I can always find you here
You know no matter where I go
That I'll always come back home
And we wonder who we are
We can't be sure
When all we do is wonder
Cause the future's insecure
Just when I thought I discovered who you were
You change again
And I don't want to run your life
But some things I expect
It makes me wonder why I try
Just to walk away in shame
In case I cannot stay
In case I go again
Everything still looks the same
Yet somehow I sense a change
But even after all these days
It's nice to hear you laugh the same
And so we wonder who we are
We can't be sure
When all we do is wonder
Cause the future's insecure
Just when I thought I discovered who we were
We change again
And I don't want to run your life
But some things I expect
If it makes you wonder
Why you try
Just to look away in shame
In case I cannot stay
In case I go again
When all we do is wonder
And nobody can be sure
When the world is going crazy
And nobody finds the cure
Just when I thought I discovered
What we were and who I was
Just when I thought I uncovered
Just when I thought I uncovered
Just when I thought I discovered who we were
We change again
“Hourglass (Time Will Find A Way)â€
Slowly look away
Afraid to remember
What you couldn't say
You wrote in this letter
Come and take my hand
Don't you understand?
If it's meant to be
Then time will find a way to bring us back together
But in this time and place we are here forever
So we sign our names
Next to each other
As the sky turns grey
From burning the numbers
Come and take my hand
Don't you understand?
If it's meant to be
Then time will find a way to bring us back together
But in this time and place we are here forever
You know you don't always get what you want
Cause summer's passing
The hourglass rings low
So stay up all night
Till we're out of
Time will find a way to bring us back together
But in this time and place we are here forever
“Twisted Fateâ€
The whisper in my mind
Left me numb
Outside of time
The weight of the words was more than I could hold
I opened up my eyes
To see the sorrow
In disguise
The rest of the day was out of my control
It was the saddest story that I never told
And they taught us not to cry
But there is dust in the air that they couldn't hide
The feeling that day was so unusual
If I had a way I would’ve twisted fate
If I was more than just a prophet I would have saved the day
But I somehow hold myself responsible
I took one moments rest
When time rushed in
To catch its breath
The weight of the world was more than I could hold
If this is what it seems
It's all too real
Just like a dream
A dream you do not really have control
It was the saddest story that I never told
And they taught us not to cry
But there is dust in the air that they couldn't hide
The feeling that day was so unusual
If I had a way I would’ve twisted fate
If I was more than just a prophet I would have saved the day
But I somehow hold myself responsible
And the lights went out and it started to pour
All the pieces of her dreams shattered on the floor
The feeling that day was so unusual
If I had a way I would’ve twisted fate
If I was more than just a prophet I would have saved the day
But I somehow hold myself responsible
The whisper in my mind
Left me numb
Outside of time
It was the saddest story that I never told
"Yesâ€
Said it's so good to see you
We started the night with a drink for two
And we laughed at that old joke
And danced to that old tune
I held you like you were still mine
How easily I cross the line
You said we can't go back that way
It just felt like nothing changed
Yes, now as time has gone to show
I can make it on my own
All alone
Yes, now as I have come to be
I am fine with just me
Just with me
When the night came to an end
You had to leave with all your friends
I should have asked you if you'd stay
I just let you walk away
Yes, now as time has gone to show
I can make it on my own
All alone
Yes, now as I have come to be
I am fine with just me
Oh just me
But the night came to an end
I watch you disappear again
“Love Light (Triad)â€
It's hard to imagine your life without love right now
Where could it go?
And all of the words that you feel creeping up inside
Are now in control
Say what you want on your own time
But remember
And do as you will with your own life
But remember
Don't let the sun into your eyes
Oh love, come and take me away with your lies
Your shelter keeps me home
Your love light you turn me on
Your shelter is my home
And I don't think I'm walking away
So float like a feather you know that love makes you high
And keeps you alive
But how will you swim with your heart sinking like a stone
Under the tide
Dream like you do in a movie
Cause you're the star
You know she's a talented beauty
She will steal your heart
Don't let the sun into your eyes
Oh love, come and take me away with your lies
Your shelter keeps me home
Your love light you turn me on
Your shelter is my home
And I don't think I'm walking away
Your shelter keeps me home
Your love light you turn me on
Your shelter is my home
And I don't think I'm walking away
“Change Your Mindâ€
I stare in the mirror tell me do I look the same?
I will try to change your mind
Redesign
The way you view me
I will try to change your mind
Just in time
To save us now
So try to remember
Who I was
Not who I've become
And I'll make it better
Don't be so quick to run
You were right and I was wrong
So give me time to give you more
I owe you more
But the questions remain
Is should I surrender?
Or will it all go by if we hold rewind?
I will try to change your mind
And redesign
The way you view me
I will try to change your mind
Just in time
To save us now
I will try to change your mind
And realign
The thoughts that made me
I will try to change your mind
Just in time
To save us now
“With You Goesâ€
I know you always tell me
Before I turn around
And now our time looks over
It was left just as it was found
Time is restless in life and love
Now I guess my time is up
But when you stand
With these words inside your hand
I'll bring you love
I know you'll try
With your heart into what's real
I'll bring you luck
You'll find your way
That I know for you've been raised by those I trust
And with you goes
The entire hopes of the world
I know you might be somewhat
Confused and still unsure
So I have saved you this gift
It's not much but its thought is pure
Time is restless in life and love
Now I guess my time is up
But when you stand
With these words inside your hand
I'll bring you love
I know you'll try
With your heart into what's real
I'll bring you luck
You'll find your way
That I know for you've been raised by those I trust
And with you goes
The entire hopes of the world
“Last Great Songâ€
Well I was walking alone
Down those city roads
When a man asked me
“May I please have some gold?â€
So I reached within
I gave him all that I could loan
And he said "in my return
I'll play you the last great song"
And so he reached for his guitar
He put the notes in proper tone
And before he began he said
"There’s something you should know
Now the words they aren't done
And I probably sing it wrong
But if you look beyond the flaws
You will hear the last great song"
And the man began to play
And the melody would grow
To the mountains high
From those valleys below
And as it came to an end
He held the last note long
And then he said "My friend
You've just heard the last great song"
He said "I'd love for you to stay
But I'm sure you've got to go
But whatever song you play
Make sure that all the people know
That the words they're never done
And you'll probably sing it wrong
But if they look beyond the flaws
They will hear the last great song"
And his voice stayed in my head
And his melody would grow
To the mountains high
From those valleys below
And as it came to an end
He held the last note long
And then he said "my friend
You've just heard the last great song"
And so I walked on my way
Walked about a block or two
When someone must have paid
Cause’ I swear I heard the tune
Of a sound so sweet
Of a sky so blue
And he played it complete
‘Til everybody knew
And the man sang loud
And it echoed through the dark
From 14th street
Through all of Central Park
And as it came to an end
He held the last note long
And then he said "My friend
You've just heard the last great song"
The last great song
The last great song
And then he said "my friend
You've just heard the last great song"
“Cedars Bayâ€
Walked outside today
To see if the world ran on time
Walked to Cedars Bay
To find out if love was a lie
Said I wanted you, needed you
Can't live without you tonight
And the hardest thing
Is though it is wrong it feels right
And your heart ran empty
But my love was full
And the time spent waiting
Was no time at all
So come here
I find the answer is really a question of timing
Begging before you I barely see over your shoes
You are the ocean I'm just a vessel you're sinking
And I find the reason I stayed here all season is wrong
Now the sun is gone
But some days the world lets it shine
But for most the time
It's always as dark as my mind
Said I wanted you, needed you
Can't live without you tonight
And the hardest thing
Is though it is wrong it feels right
And your heart ran empty
But my love was full
And the time spent waiting
Was no time at all
So come here
I find the answer is really a question of timing
Begging before you I barely see over your shoes
You are the ocean I'm just a vessel you're sinking
And I find the reason I stayed here all season is wrong
"Nice to meet you"
It's nice to meet you once again
Who is this beneath your skin?
You look so troubled
I'll help solve the puzzle if you let me in
It's funny how it all works out
Even when we had our doubts
It's a constant struggle
I guess that's what love is all about
So go on go change
You know that change is good
And it's a risk worth chancing
So turn the page
And leave the music on
When everyone is gone
There's you and me left dancing
On an empty stage
It's nice to meet you once again
I let you out now let me in
I won't surrender
I know December will keep us close
So go on go change
You know that change is good
And it's a risk worth chancing
So turn the page
And leave the music on
When everyone is gone
There's you and me left dancing
On an empty stage
Confusion my close friend
Your timing is perfect once again
Let’s try to save it
Don't waste it
So go on go change
You know that change is good
And it's a risk worth chancing
So turn the page
And leave the music on
When everyone is gone
There's you and me left dancing
On an empty stage
So it's nice to meet you once again
"Taxi Driver"
What's that oh driver?
I'm listening to you
You’re telling of your mother
Her funeral was last June
Your mom she died of cancer
Her death brought you back home
Vodka was your only friend
Cause you were all alone
Oh taxi driver
I am here for you
But when the ride is over
There's not much I can do
See you were born in Texas
You had a dream of fame in your head
And so you moved to Nashville
But the music there was dead
So now you drive and you play at the same time
As the drunks they sing along
Is this the most fame that you will ever have?
Or will we ever hear your song?
Oh taxi driver
I was there for you
But now the ride is over
What else can I do?
?What else can I do?
Tell me what else can I do?
Oh taxi driver
Drive us to happiness
Drive us to fame
Drive us to love
Drive us all the way
"Wait by the Door"
Oh sweet love wait by the door
You know I've come back for more
For more
So tell me where you've been
Tell me where you're going to
Wait there by the door cause I'm back for more
Oh sweet love turn on the light
Oh sweet love it’s been a long time
Long time
So tell me where you've been
Tell me where you're going to
It’s been such a long time
So turn on the light
Oh sweet love wait by the door
You know I've come back for more
For more
So tell me where you've been
Tell me where you're going to
Wait there by the door cause I'm back for more
Wait there by the door cause I'm back for more
