Mexican Native K-NO is without a doubt one of the freshest acts to surface from the Niagara Region in a long time. He was featured on the Chicago-based magazine
H.E.E.T. back in 2002, and from then on he hasn't stopped. K-NO definitely has the potential to take Hip-Hop to the next level, with a trend-setting state of mind, his unique sound is soon to get the recognition it deserves.
At the age of 10 K-NO was introduced to what has become his biggest love in life, Hip-Hop. There have been many influences in K-NO's life like 2pac, Notorious B.I.G., Method Man, Wu-Tang, Dr. Dre, Eminem, but his biggest influence and first artist that he could relate to was LL Cool J. It wasn't until the age of 15-16 that he started to write his own material. His motivation to write emerged when former
Legendz partner, Rex DS, started writing his own lyrics and freestyling infront of small crowds. Although the skill of writing was present, K-NO didn't take it seriously until last year (beginning of 2006), around the time he started working with A-FAM. They influenced him on many levels, but musically they brought out something new in him. Shortly after, he started work on his written "freestyles" mixtape "
Killin Time Vol. 1". That was a dope mixtape but right after that he hooked up with 905 artists Tino & Gau once again. After long hours of living life, drinking, smoking chronic and most important of all, writting, we came up with what ended up being Gau's introductory mixtape. Recorded in K-NO's studio, the mixtape "
EVOLUTION" dropped in early 2007 featuring appearences by K-NO, Tino, Splyt & Pawn. His solo release "
GANGRENE" dropped
SEPTEMBER of 2007. Right after "
EVOLUTION" he started work on this new Gangrene project, and after many hours spent in the studio writing and recording and rehearsing, he came up with a CD that approached Hip-Hop on a whole new level. It was something new, fresh, intellectual, deep and most important of all: UNIQUE. His lyrical skill evolved through the mixtape series he started "
K-NO Presents: The Basement Vol.'s 1, 2 & 3". These were the first 3 mixtapes he dropped featuring some of the talent from the 905 and surrounding areas, including artists such as Prez, Ill Wayz, Eksurt, Davey Mac, Ill Tablemanners & Anubis5 amongst others. His last mixtape
"WWIII" was dropped in early 2008 and featured new music by K-NO, Gau, Tino, Verbal, SeanB & Pawn. The mixtape was a solid drop and gave these emcees the respect they deserved, proving they were some of the best emcees this city has to offer, with their unique flows and lyrical content. The title of the mixtape says it all, IT WAS WORLD WAR III up in that bitch!
In between all these projects, K-NO has released singles that have solidified his credibility in this city, but has spent most of his time perfecting his craft to the fullest, constantly in the studio trying to create and contribute something new to Hip-Hop. Some of his earliest material was recorded with the former 905 Records crew (Versetile, FlipX, Street Sweets, Rex DS, Abnormal), but has since moved on to a more serious path. He's worked with open-minded and trend-setting individuals like upcoming artist Rail and DJ Ill Table Manners along with Tino, Gau, Moofeek, Lyrical Prez, Pawn, Splyt, AG, Blaze, Carlito & Edson Neto just to name a few of the other cats that are making moves in this city and the whole 905 area. K-NO has been making guest appearences on local records, and has extended to artists throughout Canada as his music keeps reaching new grounds everyday. His latest project, the
"EXODUS" mixtape is available now. It features new music by K-NO featuring appearances by The Poet Trees, SeanB, Edson Neto from A-FAM & Lyrically DIseased. This mixtape is
HOT from beginning to end so make sure you
COP IT!
K-NO's plans for the future are to drop his highly anticipated LP "
The Prototype", which is sure to have heads thinking and approaching Hip-Hop on a new angle. It's set for a 2009 release, but make sure to keep checking back for more information on this project.
