I am a visionary. My birth name which is Swahili means “fighting warrior."
I realized my potential as a leader at Florida A&M University, rising to become president of the Student Government Association. As president of SGA we birthed the concept of “The New Dealâ€; a cultural explosion of events which put into process intellectual, academic, & entrepreneurial systems for the students of Florida.
After graduating with a degree in political science, I accepted an international fellowship with IFESH (the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help). Working directly with Rev. Leon H. Sullivan, I served as the project lead for the Schools for Africa initiative in Johannesburg, South Africa. During my nearly two-year tenure as a fellow with the Schools for Africa Project, over 85 schools were built throughout cities and villages of sub-Saharan Africa.
My passion lies within the cultural enrichment of the African Diaspora. In keeping with that passion, in 2002 I formed TheMovement.US,Inc. whose purpose is to promote love, understanding of community and cultural wealth throughout the Diaspora. TheMovement.US,Inc. seeks to bring psychological reparations in America through forging a more inclusive understanding of what it means to be American.
I realize the importance of paying homage to the symbols and people that have come before me. “We are all yesterday’s contribution to the present; our works and fruits are today’s contribution to the futureâ€.
