About Me

I started playing kit at 15, when everyone was into skiffle. The first two records I ever bought were “Theme from Dambusters” & an instrumental played in a honky-tonk piano style by Winifred Atwell & for some reason this led to my checking out musicians like Thelonius Monk, Charlie Mingus, Roland Kirk & many other American players. This turned me on to a life long interest in American music of all kinds. At 16 I joined my first local band (Norfolk area) that actually had a manager & owned a van (very rare in those days). From then on I’ve played drums in a variety of different musical settings – be it working with Tommy Cooper for a week, playing in a big band, to most recently producing alongside Airto Moreira & Flora Purim. I now play Yamaha Custom Maple with original ‘K’ Zildjian & have recently started to use a Roland DT-10 electronic drum kit. I also play a myriad of bits of percussion - be it Udu drum or Cujon drum box. My most recent long term gig was two & a half years with The Libertines (pre-signing). Recently I’ve completed tracks with an Australian band called I Fly, as well as The Coustics (from Blackpool). I’m also doing stuff with a young rapper from Florida named Assim.
