FUNK NUGGET

Studio Album Almost Done....Seriously!!

About Me

Funk Nugget was formed in Early 2000 by Zach Ladin (Guitar, Vocals), Brett Boardman (Drums, Vocals), and Brendon Bjorness-Murano (Bass....aka LOW B) in Kingston, RI. After a number of name changes and 6 monthes of straight jamming at the now legendary "109 Biscuit City Rd" (now the jam-space for "The Attic"), Funk Nugget started gigging without a single song worked out. Once they obtained a weekly gig every Thursday at the Bon Vue Inn in Narragansett, RI they soon realized that they needed to get their shit together and learn some songs. After writing a few originals and a few covers they were off!!! They would turn a 3-hour time slot into a beer induced, weekly jam session that became known as "Funk Nugget Thursdays". in late 2001, they added Berkeley School of Music student and long time friend Malin Gibbs to the line-up on tenor saxophone. Now, as a group of four, Funk Nugget started gigging throughout RI and Massachusetts playing at such venues as The Met Cafe, The Living Room, The Ocean Mist, Tammany Hall, and Many More... Opening for such legendary acts as Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Rustic Overtones, The Radiators and Many more!! Soon after their recent success, Malin left the band and Jason Dollard joined the band on Keyboards. With the addition of Jason, FUNK NUGGET was trully able to find the sound that they were after. Now playing as one of the tighest Ryhthm sections around, FUNK NUGGET decided to pay homage to one of their favorite albums "The Story of The Ghost" by Phish. Playing in front of a sold out crowd at The Ocean Mist in Matunuck, RI, FUNK NUGGET's first set was this legendary album and the second set was of all originals. The crowds response was tremendous. Despite being an original band, FUNK NUGGET over the years has covered songs by such artists as Herbie Hancock, Deep Banana Blackout, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Bob Marley, Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre, NWA, Boston, Phish, and many more including their "famous" renditions of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and "Billie Jean". In 2004 FUNK NUGGET went in hiatus. Zach moved to Micronesia and joined the band "OMA" which recorded an album and appeared on television. LOW B moved to California and recorded with a number of famous Hip-Hop musians such as Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Virtuoso, Hieroglyphics and gigged out as a DJ and filled in w/ jam band "Allofasudden" on bass. Brett decided to focus on finishing his Bachelors degree from the University of Rhode Island in music education. Jason went on to work on his solo music career. In 2005 both Zach and LOW B moved back to Rhode Island and FUNK NUGGET reformed to play a few local shows. Including a show at the Ocean Mist w/ a special guest appearence by Boston Hip-Hop legend VIRTUOSO. Both shows were a great success. Presently FUNK NUGGET is hard at work on their first ever, self titled, studio album. All of the members of FUNK NUGGET are involved with their own projects...but FUNK NUGGET as a whole will continue to play every so often to "keep the funk alive"! LOOK OUT FOR THEIR CD EXPECTED TO BE RELEASED IN THE FALL OF 2006 !!!!!! ALSO, EXPECT TO SEE THEM AT THE OCEAN MIST IN MATUNUCK, RI IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!!! PEACE !!!
