Chinup used to be a guy sitting on his bed singing songs of love and hate and regret and ecstasy and religion and disappointment and amazement and revenge and competition and lust and guts and fear and love. The cockroaches hiding behind his fridge as his only audience. Manically recording hundreds of songs on his little four track. And that was that he thought.
But he thought wrong. After years of encouragement by his friends he started to play songs for everyone who wanted to hear it. Soon he was even warmly welcomed by the Amsterdam Songwriters Guild. His simple songs based on straightforward melodies and everyday emotions always screamed to be played by a rockband and then this also happened. The first time Jarry, Stef, Bastiaan, Maarten and Harmen got together in this combination was at a J. Mascis gig. Without the individuals involved being aware of it, this is where Chinup the Band was born. A couple of days later they found themselves in a steaming hot rehearsal room playing Chinup songs and they realized that they were a band, not really knowing how they ended up there, but enjoying the hell out of it.
They are interested in playing live as much as possible, getting that chinup energy across. They have played at venues like Bitterzoet, P60, LVC and the Noorderslag Festival. But now the focus is more on the recording of their debut
My Intentions Are Not Bad And Your Ass Is Quite Fine Too, a conceptalbum about horses. For their Dutch work they chose the moniker Klimop. If they have gathered enough Dutch songs they will release their Dutch debut
Wie Ja Zegt Moet Ook Nee Zeggen as soon as possible...
