About Me

Played in alt.rock bands in the 80s and 90s while developing the acoustic and blues side of things via the busking. Oh yes, lots of miserable, cold, wet busking. Plectrum taped to thumb when it got too cold to keep your grip ... happy days. You can never go back.
Since 2005, I've been gigging in the U.S.A (on trips in 2006 and 2007), played at various venues across Glasgow, supported Tony McPhee of The Groundhogs, and have been involved in various studio projects, including several short film soundtracks and recording in Dublin.
Recently released: 5-song EP Broke, Lonely and Guilty and 2-song single Hope It Makes You Happy. Album set for June/July release. Or thereabouts.
Subject matter/outlook leans towards 'dark'.
It's okay. I find the world a shitty, unforgiving place so that you don't have to.
Below, there's some video of me playing (sitting down - weird!) at Kelts, a bar in Altus, Arkansas. Great place, great people - but don't blame me for the flags ...

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.craighughes.net
Band Members: Craig Hughes - guitars, vocals, this and that.
Influences: Here's what's probably influencing me most in a blues/country/folk styley right at the very just now: Kris Kristofferson, Skip James, Loudon Wainwright III, Richard Thompson, Tom Waits, Chuck Berry, Gary Moore, Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, The Groundhogs, Buddy Guy, Junior Kimbrough, Ben Andrews, Ry Cooder, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Winter, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Ani Di Franco, Jimmie Vaughan, T-Model Ford, Jerry Reed, Z.Z. Top, Jeff Beck, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Billie Holiday, Willie Nelson, Rory Gallagher, Steve Earle, Robert Cray, R.L. Burnside, Johnny Cash ... and so on. That sort of thing.
Here's what's probably influencing me most in an alt.whatever styley right at the very just now: Black Sabbath, The Doors, Lou Reed, Miles Davis, Rollins Band, Frank Zappa, Rush, The Slits, Red Hot Chili Peppers, King Crimson, Motorhead, Iggy Pop, Fishbone, Peter Wyngarde, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Charles Mingus, Nick Cave, Chasar, John Scofield, The Specials, Pearl Jam, John Coltrane, The Cult, Primus, Pink Floyd, Fugazi, Neil Young, Ice T, The Who, Prazsky Vyber, Queen, The Velvet Underground, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Joan Jett, Thin Lizzy, Dinosaur Jr, T. Rex, Gang of Four, Funkadelic, Soundgarden ... and so on. That sort of thing.
I'm also listening to a hell of a lot of The White Stripes and System Of A Down these days, as it happens.
Sounds Like: In general: think "members of the Velvet Underground and Thin Lizzy forming a Hendrix tribute band to perform Tom Waits songs in the style of Black Sabbath, while Skip James throws beer cans at them".
