Magma Child

About Me

Magma Child were born in Glasgow on a freezing February in 2005. A seemingly innocuous birthday present for one of the guys turned out to be the start of a special journey for all involved.A gift certificate for Core Studio led to an exciting jamming session for birthday boy Lloyd and best friend Paul. Both had been playing the guitar and writing songs for nearly twenty years (individually and together), but this time was different. The boys could usually be found most nights, jamming in their flats, or showcasing their tunes at the legendary Nice and Sleazys acoustic night; but to take full advantage of the studio time, they wanted an extra dimension to their sound.Fitting the bill perfectly was close friend Ross. A keen musician, who can play a variety of instruments, added that extra dimension with his perfectly honed keyboard skills. With an infusion of influences, ranging from Mozart to Manzarek, Ross's sound was the perfect compliment to Paul and Lloyd's musical style. After their first session, the boys knew they were on to something special. They continued to book the studio time to try and develop the tunes that had previously been nothing more than their catchy Saturday Night sing-a-longs; and although the songs were taking shape and sounding good, something was missing. Step up Chris. Younger brother of Ross, Chris was also an accomplished musician who had played in a variety of bands (one as lead guitarist, one as bassist), but it was his talents on the drums that were going to take the boys to the next level. Now, the songs were taking shape and sounding great. Magma Child was born.Hard working, unsigned and unmanaged, every single spare minute is dedicated to writing and rehearsing songs. The 5-track demo was recorded at Urban Studios in December 05. Remarkably enough, Simon Johnstone, the sound engineer hired to mix the tracks was so taken by what he had heard, he asked the band if he could contribute to the demo as guest bassist! The band duly obliged and the audiolicious outcome is the bands first official recording.
