Morpeth Jedburgh Goes to the Supermarket
Morpeth was standing in the produce aisle when he spotted utensils for tossing salads. The shape of one of the utensils reminded him of his last battle with Ra-Keer. Ra-Keer was not a mortal enemy, but a dangerous one nevertheless. One of his hands had been replaced with a large, fork-like appendage which he used with great skill. Ra-Keer took pleasure in slashing his victims and opponents with it.
Morpeth savoured remembering every moment of his last encounter with Ra-Keer. At the point where he recalled slashing Ra-Keer open and watching his entrails spill to the ground, he threw his head back and laughed.
Suddenly, he became aware of a middle-aged man and woman standing beside them with eyes opened wide. They stood frozen, as if they thought that he wouldn't notice them or harm them if they didn't move.
"Drat!" Morpeth cursed under his breath as he realized that he'd been talking out loud again. Feeling self-conscious, he grabbed whatever produce was in front of him and dashed off to the checkout.
When he got outside, Morpeth Jedburgh looked down at his hands to see what he had purchased.
"Aw damn!" he thought. "What am I going to do with a five pound head of cabbage?"
Morpeth Jedburgh Sees a Sign
Morpeth Jedburgh stopped suddenly. He was startled to see his name on the sign. After a moment, he shook his head and laughed at how time and memory fold, bend, and change. Not always in a bad way; but not always in a good way, either.
What the Heck are Inner Penguins?
One day I was reading an article about Hawksley Workman. There was a line that said something about him "trying to tame his inner lions". My brain swapped out the word "lions" and inserted "penguins" and I giggled for about five minutes at the silliness of it all. However, I think it describes well the relationship that I have with my inner voices...that I now refer to as my inner penguins.
I try to blame them for a lot of things, like when I break out in spontaneous laughter for no apparent reason. But they do say some funny stuff sometimes. Some people accept that, some people indulge that, some people think I'm just plain looney.
So this is me...trying to tame my inner penguins.
