ABOUT MY LAST FILM - THE HORRIBLE FLOWERS
"The Horrible Flowers...is proof positive that Eric Tretbar, long touted as 'someone to watch' has now very firmly arrived. This is a fine piece of work for it's writing, direction, photography and for some utterly captivating performances, not least, from Emily Cline in the role of Bettina. There is a corking soundtrack which drives the narrative forward, interspersed with incidental music from Tretbar's own fretboard which evokes Neil Young's score for Jarmusch's 'Dead Man'." (Paul Blezard, Oneword Radio UK, 27.June.06)
EMILY CLINE as "BETTINA" in THE HORRIBLE FLOWERS
Strangers (clip from The Horrible Flowers)
"Bettina is a memorable and harrowing creation, and Emily Cline plays the role with a force of personality that would easily oil up the Oscar-talk machine had this been a studio production. She brilliantly conveys the mixed emotions of someone who won’t stop in the chase for big league stardom, but who nonetheless realizes the ridiculousness of her life (not the least being a new and silly affair with a drummer who is at least ten years her junior). It is an utterly compelling and powerful piece of acting." (Phil Hall, FILMTHREAT.COM - 3 stars, Feb 2007)
Shot on location in Minneapolis, Minnesota, THE HORRIBLE FLOWERS is a garage-rock take on the Orpheus myth about a female garage band leader who nearly destroys herself on the eve of her success when she returns to the life and love she left behind. With hypnotizing performances by Emily Cline (IN THE COMPANY OF MEN) and Rena Owen (ONCE WERE WARRIORS, STAR WARS). Info at: www.myspace.com/thehorribleflowersmovie
But all film and no rock makes Erich a very dull boy. After drumming for FRIENDS LIKE THESE, THE FUNSEEKERS, etc, I'm getting down and getting with it on drums for LA band, THE RED HEARTS (www.myspace/theredhearts). Check out new record--out soon!

I DO NOT SEEK, I FIND!

So said Pablo Picasso. That's a hilarious piece of bravado, likely in response to the kind of noodly art (and art criticism) which uses "exploration" as an excuse to never do or say anything. But Pi...

THE HORRIBLE FLOWERS - a garage-rock Orpheus story

As I wrote the script about a woman returning to the life she'd left behind a year before, I realized this was the true meaning of the Orpheus story--it's about homecoming--the need to return and revi...

An Apology for RINGO STARR / GUZZI love

Ringo Starr is a lame drummer. That's the general consensus worldwide (while Charlie Watts has played exactly 3 beats for 40 years and never been dissed). I'm not here to diss Chuck, but it's high t...
