Conspirare is a nationally acclaimed professional choral organization based in Austin, Texas.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Craig Hella Johnson, the choirs reputation continues to grow in Austin and on the national stage. Conspirare is the first Texas ensemble to receive the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, presented by Chorus America in 2005. The organization has been the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grants in the past three years, was selected to perform at the National American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Convention in New York, was invited to perform at the White House, was the Choir-In-Residence at the North Central ACDA convention in Omaha and has consistently received high artistic marks by Texas arts critics in Austin, San Antonio and Houston.
In 2004, Conspirare produced its first commercial studio release, through the green fuse, recorded at Skywalker Ranch and distributed under the Clarion Records label. Conspirare released its second studio CD, Requiem, in early 2006. Recorded at Troy Music Hall in Troy, New York, the CD has elicited much praise.
Requiem offers the ear and the soul a balm for the turmoil within, comfort for that part of us that feels lost. In "The Road Home," Michael Dennis Browne's text includes the line, "There's a voice I can hear that will lead me home." On this recording there is a company of voices, but lead us home they do. -Robert Faires, Austin Chronicle
