A child born of stadium rock, this particular 'old skool' hair rocker may have lost his long, flowing locks and now adopted the slightly shorter shall we say, more streamlined look, but the attitude and love for the era that inspired me to trade up my tennis racket for my first guitar is still going very stong!
I might never be as good technically as Petrucci, Vai and the vastly underated Val Doonican(?!?!) and co, but the heart is still very willing!
After being inspired by my Uncle Dave and Richie Sambora (in no particular order!) I decided that the life of a rock star looked too good to pass up on; and so it was that I managed to get hold of my first guitar. I would like to say that it was one of my favourite possessions at the time, but that would be a slight exaggeration! It was a complete bitch to learn on as it had an action that was a mile high, but it made switching to the electric guitar a breeze!
So, several bands later, I now find myself exploring a few musical avenues...
I am exploring a few songwriting angles with a couple of good friends with a view to starting up a new project to cater for my need to play music, following the apparent demise of a band I was involved with last year...no rock n' roll suicides here, just fizzled out like a dud firework! Hardly becoming of the rock n' roll ethos really, but we had really nice plectrums (which I am still owed!)...
Other than that, I enjoy celebrating the music that got me involved in all of this in the first place, by being one of the area's only DJ's that specializes in classic/stadium /cheese rock! Also available for weddings/civil partnerships it seems too!
Other than music, I have various other things that keep me occupied, but I won't bore you to tears by listing those...
By way of a summary of me and my mindset, I offer the following:
I can be a very negative and cynical person, but music and damn good friends keep me coming back to the positive side of perspective. This world is full of shit and we all see it on a daily basis, its just some of us choose to ignore it, or are too self-centred to care about anyone but themselves. By all means, look after yourself, but not at the expense of others.
In the words of the saviours of rock n' roll and the world, the great Bill and Ted:
"Be excellent to each other..."
and, of course...
"Party on, dudes!"
