Excrement is only the fertilizer for a beautiful truth to bloom. The gritty back streets of South Central Los Angeles, known as the ‘ghetto’ by popularity, is home to Chicano poet/ lyricist under the nom de plume of RHIPS. Under a moon lit sky, RHIPS romantically spits syllables sharp with a political edge in an era of fashionably tacky conformity. RHIPS assertively adds his voice to L.A.’s spoken word and underground Hip Hop scene. RHIPS exhales over waist-moving head-nodding beats an unapologetic onslaught of criticism of American society. Among reflecting on life experiences.
RHIPS has shared the stage with poets and music acts like: Luis J. Rodriguez, Mark Gonzales (HBO Poet), El Vuh, Quese IMC(culture shock), Brown Buffalo(oakland, CA), Aloe Blacc, Dj Phatrick & Bambu (native guns), Aidge (aesthetics crew), Guerrilla Queens, Mine+US&DJ Hoppa (broken complex), Chee Malabar(oblique brown), Matre(top2bottom), Krazy Race(realizm records), RAGE Rock N Road(Inner City Dwellers /U.K.), and others.
Currently RHIPS is working on material for his freshman album with lyrics complimented by JEKAI SOULSPEAK(myspace.com/speaksoul) on production. On the side, he grinds with lyricist VDAH, on a group effort/ project: Inner City Dwellers (myspace.com/icdla) soon to drop their freshman album (date pending, but very soon) amplifying the stories of the hood, and its people as they survive day to day in marginalized conditions. Initially connecting back in 2004, later, circa 2006 In a shot gun wedding of sorts, L.A. grown grassroots hip hop group, Inner City Dwellers came out the wood works.
