Since March 2006, the members of Groovesect began blazing a trail through the streets and clubs of New Orleans, on a mission to secure their place amongst the finest musicians the funkiest town in the world can offer.
Groovesect pays homage to the masters of funk, jazz, rock, and soul music, all the while forging their own distinct and original sound. Musically, they push each other further and further each show while never losing the uncomprable groove they've become rapidly recognized for.
With the addition of Alfred 'Uganda' Roberts in 2007, the culture and music of New Orleans became deeply ingrained in Groovesect's sound and live performances. Uganda was the only steady member of Professor Longhair's band for nearly a decade and has toured and recorded with every New Orleans music luminary imaginable; including Dr. John, The Meters, Allen Toussaint, Earl King, Smokey Johnson, Willie Tee and the Wild Magnolias, and so many more.
Groovesect has recently been sharing stages with Robert Walter, Eric Krasno, Roy Hargrove, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Papa Mali, Bill Summers, Henry Butler, and more. They have begun touring the country extensively, with recent mainstage appearances at the Gathering of the Vibes Music Festival (CT), High Sierra Music Festival (CA), Loki Music Festival (NC), Telluride Jazz Festival (CO), Waterfront Blues Festival (OR), and Voodoo Fest (NOLA). On and off tour, Groovesect regularly welcomes funk legend Fred Wesley to "Make it Funky", in support of their debut album On the Brim, in which Fred appears on three cuts. The album was produced by five time Grammy winner John Snyder, and marks the arrival of the next great New Orleans funk band.
