“GRINDHOSE GLORY†DOCUMENTS THE GRINDHOUSE ERA OF THE 60’S – 80’s
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Magic Eight Ball Productions today released its 5 minute trailer Grindhouse Glory, the first-ever feature documentary to capture original director commentary and accurately reflect the Grindhouse/drive-in films of the late 60's – early 80's. The film features numerous interviews with filmmakers who worked "below the radar" of mainstream Hollywood at the time, churning out the future cult classics of exploitation cinema.
"You see what Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, and Rob Zombie are producing today? Their ideas come from the original Grindhouse films," said Litz, the producer/director of Grindhouse Glory. "The stories I've collected from the Grindhouse directors are a piece of history. In watching it, you get to explore of the last little dirty corner of Hollywood."
Litz’ interest in Grindhouse films started in adolescence, when he would troll video stores for copies of "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" and "Werewolves on Wheels". His concept for the trailer originated out of his continued fascination with these films and their directors. "The 60's and 70's were a time of tremnedous social change, as we all know. These films echoed that in their own unique way. These films are cinematic anarchy--the equivelant of punk rock. You will see the sexual revolution, the drug era, ant-vietnam sentiment...all expressed un-apologetically in these films."
Brought together for the first time in Grindhouse Glory are these directors: Don Edmonds, famous for "Ilsa Shewolf of the SS"; David Durston, director of "I Drink Your Blood"; Jeff Lieberman, director of "Squirm," Richard Compton, director of "Macon County Line" John "Bud" Cardos director of "Kingdom of the Spiders" and Greydon Clark, director of "Satan's Cheerleaders". William Smith, a prolific actor with many Grindhouse credits, rounds out the roster. In the trailer, raucous interviews with the directors combine with a barrage of outrageous film clips for a truly "gonzo" expereince. Gore, violence, sex...it's all here."You've really got your hands on something," said Don Edmonds to Litz. "I really was impressed.
Don't, and I mean DO NOT, give up on making this film."
Litz plans to turn the 5 minute trailer into a 90-100 minute feature.
"The time is right for a documentary about the grindhouse/drive-in era", Litz says. "I definitely think there is an audience hungry for the subject matter. We have been seeing lack-luster Hollywood re-makes of grindhouse classics, and the real fans are growing tired of them. They want the real deal. 'Grindhouse Glory' will give viewers the real story behind their favorite cult classics, told by the directors themselves".
Litz’ film comes months ahead of the release of a new Quentin Tarrantino/Robert Rodriguez film, called "Grindhouse" a feature film structured as an homage to the genre.
