Donnie King

Donnie King is a performing singer/songwriter from Dayton OH. I started playing the guitar when I was twelve years old. It was an old stella my mom had. She taught me G, C, and D and I was off and running. I played the guitar every chance I got all my family played. My Dad was a great fiddle/Banjo/Guitar player. And we'd spend weekends playing at partys and cook outs. I was a big country fan growing up. I liked some rock n roll to but mainly I would listen to Lefty,Bobby Bare, Porter and Buck Owens the opry stars, and so on. Then around my eithteenth birthday A new singer named Merle Haggard, came along. when I heard his songs like Sing Me Back Home, and the Fugitive, I was hooked on the Hag. I started a band called Donnie King and the Country Knights, and played the bars up and down the Dixie strip. That's a three mile stretch of road with nothing but bars and strip joints out side of Dayton. And I started writing . To this day I like to write the slow sad ballad type songs. But have also been writing some up tempo songs to. I recently was playing with a three piece trio for three years but wanted to get more involved in writing and net working in Nashville. And working on being a better writer. I make frequent trips to Nashville and have been blessed to have met Charlie Craig through my co writer and good friend Chuck Pinney at a Tunesmith workshop. Charlie has wrote such hits as "WANTED" with Alan Jackson 'BETWEEN AN OLD MEMORY AND ME" just to name a few. We've become great friends and all have been writing together now for two years. last year we got fourteen songs published and had 3 songs on hold at diffrent record labels in Nashville. This year we've got twelve songs published and our first cut. Charlie has a new CD coming out soon and has added one of our songs on it.I also recorded a new song we wrote at EMI studios recently and look forward to recording more soon . If this is all a dream,please don't wake me up.
