History of the band
Formed originally in 1999 as Asatru by 2 friends Rob Engvikson (myself) and Steve Kelly. Both of whom were heavily into the Thrash metal scene from the 80s, and the Death metal scene that followed. But both had one particular favourite band, Bathory, so Bathory was a huge influence on us. We went through a couple of line up changes but as a band, Asatru only played a couple of gigs, and did one demo. Then we all went our seperate ways. Steve rejoined a and he had been in before called Hostile, and Mark ended up joining Drink With The Dead. I wrote a couple more tracks which never got released, but was kept busy by other things in my life.
Eventually I joined up with some old mates and joined their band "Cancer". I had a great time playing Headline gigs throughout Europe and England with some Awesome bands. And made quite a few good friends along the way.
Now
Although the guys from Asatru all went their own ways, I did carry on keeping the website up and running with Marks help. Helps having a drummer that happens to be a webdesigner by trade too, hehe. I decided to change the name of the band last year due to receiving lots of emails from people that were confusing Asatru (the band) with the religion of the same name, and were constantly asking me for advice etc. So I thought id change the name to something more apropriate. Im English, Im Fascinated with Anything to do with the Vikings, and was Born in Lincolnshire. So what better than DANELAW, a huge chunk of England that was given to the Danes as a peace treaty to stop them invading, hence it came under Danish Law. Lincolnshire was part of Danelaw :) So, I was born in what was once called Danelaw.
So I had a new name, and who better than a friendly chap id met whilst in Cancer to design me a new logo. Christophe Szpajdel, well known throughout the Black Metal scene for his Repetoir of Band Logo's, He did the logo's for lots of well known bands. Bands like Emperor, Enthroned, Desaster, Old Man's Child, Borknagar, Abazagorath, Thus Defiled & many many more. I asked him if he would be interested in designing me a new logo, and he agreed. So Many many thanks Christophe, the logo is great.
Although I currently have no plans to play live again, I am getting back into writing new tunes. And should have some new tunes to post on here sometime soon.
