Growing up he was naturally on stage wherever he went, and he finally felt the call to minister through comedy in 2002, when a fellow church member asked him and a couple of young men to put together a skit for the church reunion. Known in their church as the silly guys, they started a gospel improv comedy group called Kourt Jesterz. They did a handful of shows together throughout Ohio, until one day a member in the group suggested they each do a stand-up routine to fill time during a show.
So, in 2004 at a restaurant in Cincinnati called the Gospel Grille, J-Why made his first attempt at stand-up gospel comedy. The sporadic laughter that night in a room of only 20 to 30 people would have been enough to discourage anyone, including J-Why. But with effectual and fervent prayer and encouraging advice from friends, he continued to put the pen to the notebook and pick up the mic; and Praise God, he hasnt put it down since!
The year 2005 was a busy year for J-Why. He performed a host of shows at Cincinnati area churches. He opened for a couple of local concerts and performed in summer programs for local radio stations WCIN and WCVG. He was also blessed with the opportunity to showcase his talent at the 2005 Midwest Black Family Reunion. To top it all off, J-Why coordinated his own event The Greater Cincinnati Christian Comedy Showcase, a portion of the proceeds from which went to Hurricane Katrina victims.
Now attending Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Cincinnati, J-Why plans to take up Political Science at the University of Cincinnati. He and his supportive wife Eryn are both waiting to see how God is going to manifest Himself through J-Why next.J-Why lives by 2 Bible passages- Proverbs 3:5,6 and Matthew 6:33.
