2004 was a dead time for Jungle/DNB in Connecticut. The raves and venues at the time were few and far between in this area. Aside from the Municipal Cafe, a few nights in New Haven and Western, MA, Connecticut wasn't necessarily the easiest place to access Jungle/DNB.
A chance opportunity happened when Miz-Eyesis was able to acquire one night at a venue to make something positive for all breakbeat junkies in CT and surrounding areas happen known at the time "The Dirty Shamrock" (now The Warehouse in Hartford, CT). And it was then she called upon 2 other passionate jungle/DNB dj's, Torrential and Oneself (who is no longer with the crew) to make things happen.
Later that year, Threshold then moved to a permanent home at Sully's Pub in Hartford. The local bar which always featured fresh and unadulterated talent in Connecticut was eager to have these dj's bring a new vibe and flavor to their venue. And it was later that year into 2005 that a big boom started to occur. Threshold was not only known for the djing of it's then 3 members, but it was also known as just as it's name indicated a night which new sounds and flavors could then be exposed to music enthusiasts who weren't always able to travel to the surrounding major cities could stay right in Connecticut, locally. And with that not only get exposure to fresh-faced artists, dj's and mc's but regional, national and international as well.
The people showed love to the complex breakbeats created by pioneers in the UK and began to understand a sound which so many people once thought was only exclusive to rave parties. 2005 proved that yes, Connecticut loves jungle and it's here to stay. It was this year that Threshold members met St. Dirty, another dj/producer with as much passion as they and they joined initiatives bringing along Dr. Funk, Event Horizon, and Nondeskript into the mix and as full Threshold members. Also Threshold brought along Meszenjah, a revolutionary in the Connecticut jungle scene for years, which then raised the bar on what their mission was. To feed jungle to the masses. And not only did they have Threshold at Sully's Pub but a smaller night in Vernon, CT called Frontline which also did the same, feed jungle to the masses. The one year celebration brought the likes of Tester, Archive, Mad Dem Sound, ConnectBeats, Glue and Dj Force into the mix which was something that hasn't been done on that scale since the closing of the Municipal Cafe (earlier that year) or the shutting down of the long lived jungle/DNB nights in New Haven.
2006 was no different. The collective worked with Muck, Spread the Word Productions, BuckleUpBeats, Fluid (413DNB) and others on various other events. It also saw the crew take on a new turn by not just allowing their night to be only focused on just jungle/DNB but anything which stems from Breakbeat culture. And that included, reggae, hiphop and then a newer sound to many living in this area, dubstep who was enthusiastically pushed by Torrential, giving him the unofficial title amongst dj's in the Northeast as Ambassador of CT Dubstep. The crew also brought in it's first international talent in Breakage, who was featured at it's 2 year anniversary along with Liondub, Human?, Joel Fever and various other artists from the surrounding areas.
2007 brought along changes as Oneself decided to then pursue other endeavors, however the crew pushed on with more events at Sully's pub and more collaborations with many other crews, notably the 1st Street Fighter jungle battle/soundclash held in Wallingford, CT earlier that year. And not only that, slowly but surely, the dubstep sound was catching on by many who at first thought of the sound as too slow, but had Threshold to thank for exposing them to something fresh. The crew at this time also brought on two dj's from Danbury, Symetrex and Elzwerth and an MC from MA/HI Elijah Divine pushing their roster further. Easily the most memorable night for 2007 was Revelation 4 held at the Beverly Suites Hotel where all members of the crew as dj's and sound enthusiasts like to say, put out the body bags. ;)
2008 the crew worked with the legendary Remarc who is known as the "Godfather" of ragga-jungle. The night at Sully's Pub held January 10th would be not only the crew's biggest and most memorable moment, but also a low point as the crew's long running Thursday nights at Sully's pub would then come to an end. However, followed by a few successful BBQ's on Sundays, a 4 year anniversary at the Empress Ballroom and several collaborations with 413DNB, Atari Safari, and other New England based crews.
2008 also brought the crew to it's newest members: TCC, Megha, Sure Shot (Detroit Mike) & JoeBlaxx who all have exceptional talents and abilities that we guarantee you'll be seeing this year if you haven't become familiar with them already.
2009 however, in this long saga of a 5 year journey has brought us to our newest chapter. Threshold still eldered by Miz-Eyesis and Torrential has a new home and a new night on Saturday's in East Windsor, CT located at Club Windsor's @ The Beverly Hills Suites Hotel. The members of Threshold also on their own rights have not only continued to tear up dancefloors in CT or MA but have become well known in many circuits all over the world, which many crews native to CT have not been able to do. So yes, we promise you, as in before, and we've always done, you will get exposed to new sounds, fall in love again with the old, see pioneers and babes in the scene, and most importantly have a GREAT time doing it!
