Drum and Dance Revelry! Freestyle Percussion Jam, Wild Dancing, Didgeridoo, Glow-Poi with a fun(ky) friendly festival viBe! Formerly of Trinity-Bellwoods park.
Some of us drummed and danced and poi'd in Trinity-Bellwoods park for as many years nine years, but finally last summer it just got too large, too loud and too late for a residential Tuesday night and the police were forced to shut us down. Disappointed but not discouraged, we relocated to Queen's Park this summer for a more melodic, more intimate jam. By the end of the summer we realized the need for at least a LITTLE organization, and subsequently we booked an indoor venue every Tuesday that winter.
For those unfamiliar with the Trinity-Bellwoods event, it really was an amazing thing to be a part of. It was an organic urban festival that sprung up every Tuesday night. It gave off such a potent, positive vibe that anyone within earshot was drawn to its energy. It showcased the rich diversity of the city with people of various backgrounds adding their own cultural spices to this magical musical gumbo. 6 year olds and 60 year olds drumming and dancing side by side. Cheers, Chanting, fiddles, clarinets layering over dozens of pounding drums. every night was different. special. indispensable.
Okay so that's more background than description. but i think you get the idea. we are a community comprised of a loose affiliation of drummers, dancers, poi-yeurs, artists and music lovers who all agree to meet up and make our own fabulous people powered party every Tuesday evening. Come play with us!
