The band was formed in 1989 by Javier Fernandez and Marco Caamaño. After various names and line ups, the group is formed by Javier Fernandez on Vocals and Guitar, Harry Boschini on guitars, Gabriel Retana on bass and Rafael Chavarria on drums, with the name AURIGA.
Already with a DEMO on their hands (the 1998 "Dark Thoughts: Antara Sessions") the band releases their self titled debut album in 2001. The album got great reviews and won the Metal News Award for Best Album that year. Javier Fernandez was also awarded as best vocalist/instrumentist and Gabriel Retana won his second consecutive 'Best Bass Player' award.
Boschini and Chavarria left the band in 2002 for personal reasons.
In 2004 Javier creates what today is knows as Freak World Entertainment, an indy label created to help hard-working local bands get their material released. Fernandez and Retana are now working with session drummers, and will release AURIGA's next studio album, "Metamorphosis" through FWE.
