About Me

SELF ONE, born Jamie Ian Quilici was conceived into a world of music. Literally. The moment his mother's water bag broke at a SOCIAL DISTORTION concert in 1985 would soon define his purpose on earth. That purpose being to create art. His father, a guitarist, would bring him to band practice and within due time SELF was beating away on his grandma's pots and pans at the age of five. Hip Hop was not SELF's first introduction to music, instead he soaked in the likes of everything from JIMI HENDRX, DEAD KENNEDY'S, IRON MAIDEN and more. It wasn't until 1998 that SELF's aunt (who was already heavily in to the culture) brought him to a rave at HOMEBASE in OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. That night GRANDMASTER FLASH, JURASSIC 5, DJ HURRICANE, ROCK STEADY CREW ( to name a few ) would forever change his life. From that moment on SELF embodied the essence of the culture and started writing GRAFFITI and later began BBOYING. It was in high school when SELF discovered his itch to create music. It started with RHYMING but later developed into DJAYING when he met a group of friends who shared a similar passion for the culture. SELF being the least experienced of the three would sit back and watch his new found friends scratch for hours upon, upon hours and would seldomly get his chance on the wheels of steal. After graduating high school SELF used the money he was supposed to buy a car with and bought some turntables. Although his mother was furious he did not care for he knew his passion for music would take him farther than any car could travel. He practiced and practiced until he felt the need to further his creativity and purchased an AKAI MPC and started making beats. Fast foward and the year is 2009. Its been 11 years since he fell in love with HIP HOP and it is now his time to share what he's been crafting for the past decade. SELF's mission is to create quality music and bring diversity to the music scene in the BAY AREA. Please be on the look out for him whether it be on a wall, the 1's and 2's, the mic, or the beats. GROOVE PUSHERS coming SUMMER 2009!!!
