I am first and foremost a photographer. ever since, as a young boy, when my dad explained to me the complex manual functions of his 1952 leica camera, my life has been a timeless series of images. A non linear gestalt existance where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Each image is a straight forward shot of a moment in time. it is not until a group of shots are assembled over time that a sense of culture is revealed. We never know what will happen next and we barely know what we are doing now, but when when we look back, we all feel a sense of importance of what has been. The great thing to realize is that whatever we are doing in this moment, responding to our current conditions, is in the big picture, going to be remembered with deep emotional significance. i have always been in fear of my future, worried about the present, and in love with my past. This loop has now cycled enough times i find that i am now really exicted and involved with the present since i am certain it will be worth it in the future.For me, photographs are time machines. Thru them you still can exist in another world. They really do capture the souls of their subjects. I have captured a moment of everyone that i have photographed, and that moment will always live in me (and now for you) as long as these images exist....................................................... .....................This is where i live. I am presently sitting right behind that door writing to this myspace page. The photo is of my house when it was new over 60 years ago. It has aged a little since then and i have been working on repairs for the last nine years. It is located on land in the Dumar Subdivision once owned by the nearby steel plant. It is close to the edge of the city limits adjacent to a small community called White Center otherwise referred to as Rat City (see Rat City Rollergirls). As legend has it, a Mr. White and a Mr. Green owned that land and when it came time to incorporate they flipped a coin to determine whose name would be used. It came up White which is ironic since, as a white english speaking person, i am often aware that i am the minority. This tar paper shack bohemian lifestyle is my preference. Before this place, i lived for thirteen years with some friends in a haunted abandoned hotel in Belltown that we affectionately called S.C.U.D. (Subterranean Cooperative of Urban Dreamers) that has since been torn down. Before that i made a studio in an empty building next to a hole in the ground where a brick building had collapsed on the site of the original Skid Row in the Pioneer Square area of old Seattle.
