About Me

I'm an Assistant Professor in Creative Writing and Literature at Ohio Wesleyan University (forgive me for writing out the full title like a doofus -- I just got the job and am rolling around in the fact like a mangy dog). My nonfiction, poetry, short fiction, and translations have appeared in literary journals no one reads. I like theatre and film and write some of that stuff too. I'm from Argyle, Kentucky, and have lived in Mannheim, Germany, and Wroclaw, Poland, among other places. Oh, and I'm a great fan of bunny rabbits and monkeys. I can solve any problem when it comes down to fisticuffs; unfortunately, not every problem comes down to fisticuffs.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People who are good friends when no one's looking.

My Blog

Okla Begins a New Blog

Explanation/Apologia/Defense of My Regular Critiques of Obama/Biden

I recently re-friended a person on one of the social networks I waste a lot of time on and am happy to say that said person accepted my request after having deleted me.  Now, I had the sneaking suspic...

Noam Chomsky Talks About Obama's Cabinet Members

Per usual, Chomsky lays down truth like it's his damn job (which, since so few others seem to be doing it, I guess it kinda is). />

Tao in the Yankee Stadium Bleachers by John Updike

Here is a poem by Updike that I admire quite a bit.  Updike is rarely talked of as a poet, but he was an excellent one.  Thanks to Duff Brenna's kind request that I write a piece to commemorate Mr Upd...

Updike

So many in my generation no longer like Updike.  The Oedipal father-killing necessity has caused so many to ignore the work of one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.  What's odd is that, to ...

How Corporate Media Fixes the Fight

Okay, so, everyone heard how much of a "fringe candidate" or "unlikely winner" or "spoiler" or whatever Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader were in the recent election.  This all before peo...

Writing Poems, Making MySpace Playlists, and 2666

I've been back in the US for a little of 24 hours, and I have to say I am not entirely happy about it.  Ohio is colder than an ex-girlfriend in Antarctica, I have to work on stupid things like sylla...
