About Me

Justin Barry born in 1979, hails from Tucson Arizona and has been drawing ever since he could hold a crayon. Barry grew up a punk skater, tagging walls and spending anytime he could for art. However, his early education was not just from the street, he also studied under close artists/mentors his entire life. While attending Northern Arizona University, and eventually receiving a BA in Visual Communication, Barry leapt further into the world of graphic design, fashion design and lowbrow art. During his last year of college he dusted off his paint brushes, which hadn't been touched in six years, and has been painting ever since. Barry got a taste of exhibition in the galleries, boutiques, coffee shops and bars in Arizona and has continued to do the same since moving out to LA. He has also been invited to speak to college classes, commissioned to design T-shirts as well as CD packaging for bands, and happily accepted any other friendly requests for his work.
Barry's concept of “Beautiful Decay” mainly focuses on images of life, death, religion, and concepts of commercialism and beauty. The whole piece is a process for him. Barry is known for his ability to turn wasted material into beautiful and desired panels in which he constructs and uses as his “canvas”. Not only does he use found material for his panels, Barry also loves to mix media: from oil and spray paint to barbed wire and brass knuckles. Barry is currently working on his collective series scheduled to debut in late Fall, 2007.
