DLysh made me do this-so apparently, I'm easily influenced. See categories below for more details. N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N N

My Interests

Seeing live music (Johnnie's shows are great fun and if Charlie Overbey is ever playing around town, run, do not past go, and check him out. I love finding out-of-way places to eat (I will drive an hour and half to a hole in wall for special dish from some obscure region) I love cooking and I am really, really, really good at it. My gumbo and jambalaya are to die for. All about the roux. Although if you tell me jambalaya has a roux, you will expose your ignorance of Cajun cusine. I learned my roux at age of 6 on Bayou St. John and that makes me serious. I cook big time. Also a voracious reader, I love anything interesting. Don't care if it is obtuse. I just might be the one who gets it.

I'd like to meet:

Haven't decided, still figuring it out. But my initial thoughts are: a person needs to be intelligent, easy to talk to, sweet, kind, interesting, heart & soul of an artist, not egomaniacal and/or strictly self involved, street smart, open-minded, and one who understands that ex-rocker girls (even ones who are a little older) have different souls and operate on a totally different level than rest of world- just like rocker boys). A very rare combination and unbelivably hard to find. And if that person is a boy, well, being cute/hot does not hurt at all. obviously, I have dated a lot of musicians, mostly bass players. Not sure why, just who I'm attracted to. However, I did marry a Republican lawyer (15 years younger than I) and that just really didn't work out long term (7 years is not really what I consider long term, I am a lifetime kinda girl). Divorce had way more to do with his character and the Republican part than the age difference.

Music:

Musicians close to my heart- Van Morrison ("Browneyed Girl" always makes me want to dance and "Big Time Operator on Music Business Scene" is fantastic), Black Crows (do they or don't they spell it with an e?, I can never remember), Bob Seger (Nightmoves, one must sing out loud and dance) Bob Marley (Legend might just be the single greatest collection of songs known to man) and oddly enough given my age, Good Charlotte's first album- I adore 20 something angst- might be why I keep marrying them) Then the obvious, Stones, U2, Bob Segar, Joplin, Led Zepplin etc., etc. so etc. Go to myspace.com/charlie overbey. Listen and then talk to me. Velvet Underground was my very first album (yes, there were still albums then) and I had to buy it in NY because unavailable in Mississippi. Had to ditch chaperone in Village to pull that one off. Favorite song on that album is "Heroin" and yes, Mississippi. I'm a southern girl although I have been in LA since 1979. I left several times for SF but keep coming back. I also love blues- Howlin Wolf's 1970 cut of "Wang Dang Doodle" is probably my favorite blues cut of all times.

Movies:

I get bored and need live participation aka listening to live music/bands. But The Grifters, The Usual Suspects, The Spanish Prisioner are great. Uhh, just noticed these all start with "The" I think I'll quit while I'm ahead.

Television:

See movies above. Although I like Keifer Sutherland in 24. I have been a fan of his since 80's "Lost Boys". He is so much better at being a vampire than Tom Cruise. Has to do with way he snarls at light of day (much like me on occasion).

Books:

Power of Myth, Dragons of Eden:Speculation on the Evolution of Human Intelligence, Where the Wild Things Are (I have my very own umbrella with little monster ears on top and i use it), Joy of Cooking, Vampire Chronicles, and pretty much any mystery book. Favorite short story, "Time Remembered as a Helix of Semi-Precious Stones" by Harlan Ellison (now that's a title). Last book read, John Fowles' "The Magus". Fascinating, almost a pre-fetish era, one might say. No comments unless you've actually read the book. It's classic, you've got nothing to lose.

Heroes:

Joseph Campbell, Johnny Depp (especially when he's a pirate, okay i'm over that, and mass marketing has made my beloved skull & crossbones a trendy fashion accessory? it's anti --fashion, what's wrong with you!!!!. I digress, ok, Carl Sagan, Lawrence Tribe, Karl Jung, and Pierre Franey. Not neccessarily in that order, just depends on my mood.
